Hi there. n00b here. I've searched.

I'm still getting a hold on the terminology. Here goes.

I rooted my phone thusly.

I installed clockworkmod thusly.

In recovery, I made a backup.

In preparation to flash a ROM, I wiped data.

I decided to see if my backup would work.
It does not.
The last line reads "MD5 mismatch".

Dismayed, I went on and tried to flash Cyanogenmod 9.1. I found the .zip file here.
I formatted cache and the system. I unmounted the cache and system.
Strike two.
The last line reads "Installation aborted".
I get the same thing no matter what ROM I flash thus far.

Halp.

I think you are flashing the wrong version of Cyanogen Mod to your device. You need to flash the Sprint version, which fortunately is in beta right now, however, it looks like they just released a stable version of CM10 Jelly Bean

As you can see here: Samsung Galaxy S II: FAQ - CyanogenMod Wiki

Otherwise you can find the correct download here: CyanogenMod Downloads
