Anyone ever returned an Android device to Samsung for repair?

Hi Folks,

Has anyone ever had to return a Samsung smartphone or tablet for repair? If so, did everything go to plan? Was the returned item repaired correctly? Incidentally, I am in the UK.

I am asking these questions because Samsung have asked me to return my Galaxy Tab 10.1 (GT-P7500). I have detailed the problem I've been having here:

http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1/621514-ics-battery-disaster.html

Having looked at a few websites, I see that a good few people have had bad experiences with Samsung. The thing is - I am not confident that the problem can be repaired. Our friends over at xda developers are of the view that only a firmware update can correct the l2_hsic kernel wakelock problem that I am seeing.

So, I'm not sure what to do.

Any comments?

You'll only generally hear the negative via forums etc, because people rarely sign up to forums/post on blogs etc and post "My experience with XXX was great", "this device is fantastic etc". I'm not saying what you've heard is wrong, just that you're probably only a seeing a small percentage of the picture.

Fwiw, my mum had to send her tab back to Samsung, I can't remember whether it was her SIM or SD Card that got stuck. We couldn't get it out, neither could the shop she bought it from so she had to call Samsung. They were pretty understanding, she sent the device off and had it back within 10 days.

Not sure if they charged her either, but if they did, it was only a small amount.

Hi El Presidente,

Thanks for your reply.

I take your point entirely but the information that I gathered was not only from forums. Indeed, one of my sources was:

Samsung Complaints | Samsung UK | DK AVS Ltd | ICTV Sales & Services Ltd | SamsungComplaints.co.uk

Also, based on my experiences to date of dealing with Samsung UK's Customer Service and Technical Support divisions, I am not impressed. The fact that they also farm out repair work to contract repair outfits does not inspire confidence either.

Hi folks,

OK, thanks for the feedback.

It looks as if turnaround time can be a bit slow, which is obviously not good news. I suspect that straightforward repairs (mechanical issues - cracked screen, SIM can't be removed, water damage, battery replacement) can be handled fine. But, what about the problem I've got? I realize that ultimately I will have to take the plunge but I am nervous about returning my tab for a few weeks - only to find that the problem has not been corrected.
