there's that tab on the top of the screen.

when i click it on it, it displays a drawer of apps that i can customize in it.

that widget all of a sudden showed up this evening, and i can't figure out where it came from.

today, i had updated Samsung Push Service, installed Target and Gyft.

i don't have auto update configured on any app.

i can't figure out what created this widget.

if i tap hold it, all i can do is drag it to different sides of the screen.

any help would be much appreciated.

It's the multi window bar.

Tap the half moon to show the bar, then long press the half moon to move the whole bar to either side, top or bottom of your screen.

Tap half moon again to minimise, then long press to adjust vertically/horizontally where the half moon 'sits'. Then long press back button to show or hide. :)

I think that very soon this question is going to deserve entry in the FAQ sticky thread lol.

It's like the old question about the funny icon people used to have in the notification bar with the minus sign that turned out to be the notification disabled notification.

Used to get that question all the time. This is the new version :)

No.

This is getting tedious though. I swear everyone should search "what's this" before posting ;)

lol...I/we/all members appreciate your patience in answering not only questions such as this, but other questions that others have posted over and over again :)

I think one of the things that makes this forum different, is the fact we don't tell people to "search first" or "let me google that for you" with no answer other than that.
Per Phases:
Also while the search feature on forums is great, and hopefully will be utilized - if someone comes here and asks a question, either answer it or don't. If you're going to suggest the search feature, be polite about it. Nothing irks me more than when I go to a forum, (and use the search!), then ask a question because I want some one-on-one with my problem, and get a simple "Use the search." reply. Suggesting it is encouraged, but don't withhold the answer because they don't.

Thanks you guys :D

I'm with SUroot on this one all the way.I too was new to the forums @ one time & appreciate all the help people continue to provide on an almost daily basis.

However, the S3 forum is a prime example of the same questions asked & answered ad nauseum & it makes for an extremely cluttered forum.

There should be a mechanism in place when first joining the forum to where you have to verify that you've read the general rules of the forum before posting.
This suggestion is not to be interpreted as punitive, but, educational,so those that are new here will know,w/o a doubt,to look at the FAQ's of a forum before posting.

I always do help. I do not think "just dont reply if it bothers you" is a helpful attitude to take.

Also obviously my comment of searching "what's this" was tongue in cheek since obviously that would not yield any results. I think adding this to the sticky would have been much more productive than quoting the rules I upheld myself as a guide in case I forgot.

Mega offended here, very condescending

I truly did not mean to offend you with my comment SU...and I didn't quote the rules because I didn't think anyone knew them.

Also different isn't always better. The fact I was answering 3 "I'm not getting notifications" threads A DAY is testiment to that.

This place is a bit of a joke sometimes. Time for a long hiatus I think

No hiatus please mate :(
i do totally udnderstand what u mean but a lot of users have a lil problem, panic and ask the question without searching. It should be clearer that people should search. Think mike was just stepping in incase the op was made to feel bad

Yeah, the search feature isn't always the best option. Some topics are so popular in discussion that the search feature is almost useless, whereas sometimes an obscure question pops up immediately.

The comments regarding duplicate questions weren't directed @ you, just the timing & spontaneity of the topic couldn't have been worse.Believe me,I know I've gotten under the skin of some of the MODS/GUIDES/DEVELOPERS asking about oft-discussed & answered topics.

Myself,I usually GOOGLE my query & sometimes even go to other forum sites before asking a question here, especially if I'm starting a new thread.Sometimes,I'll even bounce around the question in a PM w/someone who may be of help & then bring that topic into the forum if deemed relevant/helpful.

Gotta admit im mega guilty of not searching :)
And this would be a hard one because the people asking, dont know the name for the problem lol

Yeah exactly. And some people are just not very good at searching anyway, i.e. they don't pick very good key words for their search. I think I'm not too bad at searching, myself, but sometimes it's hard to think how to word a search.

i always thought this was a forum discussion site not a search engine?, i suspect that if everyone searched that they would be nothing left to forum about other than the small percentage of new problems, but then there probably wouldnt be enough members to answer any of the questions as no one would join they'd just sesrch.
myself i dont have any problems answering a question if i can, because i know how tedious it can be searching for an answer especially as im usually posting not answering...
