Disappointed in Sprints speeds in your area?

The
Verizon more than likely had the backhaul upgrades complete before they came in and installed the 4G panels, this is why it didn't take long. Not to mention Verizon is still deploying LTE in markets since 2010 so 3 years. Just because you think they only did 2 towers 40 miles apart doesn't mean the other towers in between haven't received NV upgrades. Backhaul may not be complete, Sprint may be waiting to announce the launch market, Sprint didn't sign off on the work that has been done to the towers, bad weather, etc etc etc all these are factors. Just because winter is coming doesn't mean Samsung (OEM doing NV in central Wisconsin) will stop doing upgrades. What Samsung could be doing is upgrading the whole market before turning on the new equipment. Once all the towers are complete you could see all the towers accepted/broadcasting all at once (Samsung has been known to do this in the Northern/Central California markets as well).

Where did you get that from. I live in Northern California and I havent seen any improvements around the greater Sacramento area. LTE came on in a few places months ago but is hit or miss if it's actually working day to day. The network is still absolutely pathetic here. But it about to get better last year, this year, next year........

Sounds like you're still in an area being worked on and they're testing the system

A lot of work has been done and a lot more needs to be done. In the mean time no real improvements.

Sacramento falls in the Samsung OEM for Network Vision upgrades, the tower near Bridgeway Lake Community Park has received a 4G LTE upgrade, the tower near Kiefer Blvd has received a 4G LTE upgrade. The six towers in the Roseville area have received LTE upgrades, and thats it. This is why LTE is going to spotty until more towers are completed, towers that are currently getting upgraded are in the downtown area of Sacramento and east towards Rancho Cordova, also towers west of downtown are currently getting upgraded towards Davis and north towards Woodland. If you drive through an area that is getting an LTE signal and the next day its gone it means Samsung is blocking the LTE signal, which means they are making adjustments to the antennas for optimal dB strength.
Cities such as Oakland, San Francisco, San Jose are 90% complete, you'll start seeing more towers coming online, I know it can be slow as molasses, where I live they completed about 80% of the towers (Ericsson OEM) moved towards Knoxville to finish up there then will be back to finish out the rest of the towers here.

Here in Sacramento they are doing the work, but it is frustrating at times depending on what part of town you are in. There are times when I get acceptable speeds. Then there are times I can I can't get on the web at all. I have been with Sprint for 12 years, and this is the worst I've seen the Network.

Data speeds are part of the problem..

Call connections are spotty..dropped calls and low quality..cant find network to make a call..

And I live in a very big sprint market..Dallas Ft worth

Until enough 800mhz spectrum has been cleared off Ericsson (OEM for Dallas/Fort Worth) will not start turning on 800. Once 800 gets turned on better call quality, less dropped calls. 1900Mhz PCS is crap spectrum in large metro areas it has the bandwidth/capacity to handle calls but doesn't travel very far maybe about 500ft to 2500ft depending on how dense an area is not to mention crappy building penetration.

That is another ...wait we have a solution..just wait.

It was fine 2 years ago!
How they F-ed it up?

And the other providers are doing fine.

How often can you take a black eye from your mate..
And say..but they love me..and promised to get better..soon

It is frustrating when Sprint's coverage maps have shown that I live in the center of a large 4G area, but my smart phone cannot read the maps - i.e., only 3G service. When I go about half mile away, 4G (did not measure speeds). I called customer service, and was told they are working on towers, but this has been several months. Is Sprint 4G hype and smoking mirrors (as "reflected" by the coverage maps showing service that appears spotty).

Many people think that Sprint's coverage map shows the actual coverage in real time, this is not the case. Sprint's coverage maps are an estimate of what your coverage will be once the area is 100% fully built out. Once a market reaches 40-50% completion Sprint makes an announcement that LTE is available in that particular market even though there is still LTE being rolled out on the other 50% of the towers. This tricks customers into thinking they have LTE coverage at home, work, etc when there is a chance you will or a chance that you will not.

To be fair...That's every carrier, not just sprint

I've had 4g coverage throughout most of my city and sprint hasn't announced the market yet.

If anything, they're being overly cautious about announcing markets to AVOID customer confusion.

The problem is that wasn't the case when Dallas was announced. They announced in July of 2011...and it still isn't complete.

I am fortunate enough that I have great coverage where I frequent in dfw. unfortunately Dan does not

thanks Ed.. but it is not just 4G that is spotty..
it also drops out of 3G...
and places with NO data at all..
and drops calls!!!!
bad call quality too...

just plan bad!!
it was much better 2 yrs ago!

It was not under a major network overhaul two years ago. Trust me I get it...20-50 times a day I get it day after day at the store.

Untill I'm able to download a 2mb app in less than 15 minutes and have no more dropped calls, this is what I think of them.

Sometime in the past week, my 3G speeds here in Wichita have jumped. I now average over 1MB download speed and close to that for upload. May not sound like much, but up until last week, I pretty much only got dial up speeds on 3G. Maybe the backhaul is finally getting finished. It is a good sign. Of course it might just be that 3G now has more bandwidth since people here are able to use 4G in more places around town.

Anyway, just thought I would share a positive story, since most of the time I have only negative things to say about Sprint's 3G service.

For the past few months my son has hardly been able to use his phone. We could be standing right next to each other and his is unusable.

My only answer became I don't know what to tell you. Then not too long ago it started happening to me. It's one of the reasons I'm not upgrading my phone at this time.

If I didn't have wifi this phone would be a paper weight. I know it's not the phone's fault. It's Sprint.

I no longer believe this pitiful service had anything to do with network upgrades and I'm so tired of phoning in about it only to be told this is the first they're hearing of this.

Really! Like I'm the only customer with a Sprint phone having network issues.

Yes you are correct, backhaul has been completed to about 98% of Sprint's sites in the immediate Wichita area. Most of the sites have been 3G/4G completed, there is even a site on Hwy. 96 across from St. Paul Lutheran Church that is now broadcasting 1x 800 if your out that way see if you can connect to it.

The past 3 days, my speeds have dropped dramatically here in Wichita. My 3G speeds are actually a bit faster on average, than my 4G. I am getting about 25kbps for 3G, and only 15kbps on 4G. Have tested it each day on the west side of town, and the east side. Haven't had a chance to do a test in the central part of town, as I am generally just traveling through on my way either to or from work.

This could be due to Ericsson finally connecting the CDMA 3G side of things into the new backhaul, in order for this to happen sites have to be brought online in clusters to allow smooth handoffs for voice between legacy cell sites and the new upgraded cell sites. You could experience dropped or blocked calls during this process and slow data as well.

Don't hold your breath for the speed to come back anytime soon. My 3G went from 800kps six months ago to 1X 50kps when they upgraded the next tower up the road to 4G (the only 4G tower in 40 miles)Screenshot_2013-12-05-16-50-22.png
Last week I took a ride north on I-39 to Stevens Point, WI the 4G towers still seem to be about 40 miles apart but was able to lock into one near the Wal-mart complex and got a blazing fast 1.6mps. Sprint is just dragging their feet again, but they are running out of time.Screenshot_2013-12-05-13-08-46.png
Sprint fix your network! Big red switched everything around here to 4G 15 months ago and their 3G was not in as bad of shape as Sprints. I have already peeled off 3 of 6 devices to other carriers. I suppose now that winter has set in with below zero temps any upgrades and patch ups will probably be on hold until spring so I am stuck with 1X speeds on a network that keeps cutting out
