Android or iOS

Comparing Siri to google OK (first time I've heard of it, lol) is also silly, I mean android is google software but many of us are trying to escape google!

Seriously? This comparison is all over the internet. Just Google it lol.
CNET even made videos of side by side questions and showed which was faster and which came up with the right info. Siri won according to them.

That's interesting. The stereo is an after market pioneer that I picked up from best buy. It was brand new when I bought it which was around a year ago. Also I have the moto x with kit Kat. I haven't tried it again since the update but that shouldn't matter since you said android has had this ability since 4.0

I installed the stereo myself with very little car stereo experience. Do you think I could have installed it wrong?

Perhaps it depends on the particular system manufacturer and what they support, and maybe regional as well. Like they're only supporting whatever Apple does rather than the Android music over USB protocol. Because I've only really seen Chinese systems, mainly because of where I am. Most people here have Android phones, iOS devices can be very expensive, so they support both with the appropriate leads. Using USB sticks is very common with car systems here as well. I know BMWs for a while had iPhone docks, but when Apple changed the connector on the iPhone 5. Probably had to buy a new system.

I occasionally drive a friends BYD or Geely, that have whatever audio systems they comes with, and they do play music and charge just fine from my Samsung and Lenovo phones.

I have to agree with Italo (you a Paisano?) about iTunes, I literally LOATHE iTunes!!! Putting music or videos in something should NOT be that complicated!!! In all honestly, the ONLY reason I bought my iPhone was because a guy at work who has one explained to me that you can just install the apps from the app store and you don't have to hassle with iTunes. Had that been the case I would have never bought it. My iPod shuffle has been sitting in a drawer since June for the same reason, it's just too much trouble to stick music there when I can "cut and paste" on my mp4's!

Thanks Steven. That's why I posted on an android forum. I can still remember when I had my iPhone and couldn't wait to switch. Im just a little confused now and want to know if there's something I'm missing or just be reminded of why I ditched my iPhone to begin with.

I understand what you are thinking. I have had many android phones (currently Moto X) and an iPhone 5 and I switch back and forth regularly. I am not interested in rooting my android phone - I already spend enough time tinkering with it to get it to work the way I want, and at times I get frustrated. Both of my grown daughters have iphones and we text a lot, and I can tell you for sure that it works better when I am on my iphone. Groups messaging is sometimes unreliable/inconsistent on my Moto, I run into other odd issues from time to time. That, and the camera on the iPhone is better in my opinion. On the other hand, I find the form factor and customizations on most androids more conducive to other smartphone activities, like browsing the web, etc.

I find it very hard to decide which platform is truly best for me. I like the whole idea of Android a lot, and it's come a long way since the days of my Droid Eris, but sometimes, I just like my phone to do it's simple job - text, call, email, calendar - without a lot of fiddling around on my part. When I use my iPhone, I spend less time messing with it, and more time just using it, although I use it for less things - if that makes sense at all. I am more likely to turn to my tablet or laptop when I have my iPhone, then when I am using whatever android phone I have at the moment.

Is that because you're all using iMessage on the iPhones? Which is proprietary to iOS devices and nothing else. So obviously a Motorola(Lenovo) isn't going to have this Apple only service. You're down to regular SMS or whatever IM app want to use. Me and my friends and colleagues all use WeChat, and so don't find group messaging to be a problem. Works on iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Win Phone and Symbian.

I am an Android user. My daughters an iPhone ones. My wife doesn't care. So only in my family there 3 points of view. One can choose based on needs and likes what to choose. I like Nokia (let an say Nokia N8 with Belle, that i had lately) the most but because of lack of working applications that I use I switched to Android. I will never use iPhone because they do not offer what I need. Android Jelly bean is almost Belle from Nokia. My s4 mini for moment is my best fit needs.:beer:

To be fair, android is an OS running on thousands of different devices, made by many different companies. They range from high end top-of-the-line hardware to budget phones. You're comparing it to a single top of the line phone. Surely some of them aren't going to stack up, but thats because they aren't supposed to. They're going after totally different markets.

With that said, any of the flagship phones (the HTC one, galaxy s4, G2, nexus 5, ect) have a more than capable camera.

And if you're really concerned about getting amazing shots, you should be carrying around a dedicated camera ;)

I don't take many pictures, and the camera on my HTC One is adequate when I do. But, there isn't really an android phone that can compete with the iPhone's camera. I know people who have switched solely because they wanted to take better pictures.

The games thing is annoying. But, I was thinking of the camera more as a competitive disadvantage. Yes, most flagship have good cameras. They just aren't as good.

That's not true at all. If Google apps were really essential, you wouldn't have other apps to use. And there are forks of Android that don't use Google apps at all.

He maybe means the aosp apps essential for the device to function?

I said *some* of google apps are essential to android, on account of android being a Google OS!

I think when people bought the Google Android phone they just wanted gmail integration & gmaps. Things were different when android first came in. Google are over reaching themselves now; Chrome browser can eavesdrop on you; they're trying to force people to join google+ (if people like social media, they already have FB & twit). I don't like the way they're going, But I will stay with android, & *some* Google apps, as long as *some* android apps don't p**s me off!

There are variants & custom roms out there but I still use the core apps like Gmail, Gmaps etc. Sure you can replace this app with that app but it might not always be better.

It's a Google developed OS, but you don't have to use Google's apps and services, and they're no way essential, like there's plenty of alternatives to Google Play, e.g. Amazon. Most Android users I know don't use Google, they're using things like Baidu and Tencent. Sure they'd like and encourage you to use their apps and services though, where they're available. I have a "with Google" phone, and there's not many of those around here... D: but only use their basic services like Play(free apps only), Gmail, Maps and Calendar. Never see anything of G+ or their other social networking stuff, and Google Now just gives a message about being "unavailable".

On the other hand with iOS you very much have to have an Apple or ITunes account to use it, certainly no (legal) alternative for apps and games.

Also over the last 4 months that I've had this phone its froze up 3 times. My iPhone never did this. Is this behavior that android users are just used to? Or perhaps most have simply never even used an iPhone before so they really have no idea what they're like.

Only time my phone has rebooted it was causing some free app/widget that wasnt working well at all. I dont usually install free apps (because of ads) and I really havent faced this problem you have. So, no this is not the behaviour you get, atleast when you buy high-end devices and check the apps (comments) before installing them.

If the phone freezes totally, you may want to reset the phone and see, if it caused by any installed apps or maybe bad hardware.

Dont know about Google service, it doesnt understand my language. Tried it, for sure, but I dont feel I need that kind of services. One thing I hate: Why on earth I cannot turn off this auto translation in Playstore? When developer try to be smart and offer the info in my language, most translations are just rubbish and meaning nothing. "You have a postman in the ceiling on the roof. Moon. A dog. Google, green faces and a funny clock widgets! Now sale! " What the hell?? And it only forces me to use web browser to find the info in english.

Of course they have iMessage, but when they send to me, the message sends as SMS. I fully understand that iMessage is proprietary to Apple. Sometimes we use Whatsapp, and that works fine. However, I expect the native messaging to work for SMS and group messaging. It works some/most of the time, but not always. I have one friend with a Galaxy S3 and when she replies to a group message, the reply never goes to the whole group. I even checked her settings, because I assumed it was user error, but they were all set properly. I am curious -- what made you pick WeChat? Are there advantages over WhatsApp?

That's what should happen, but you said earlier that you "switch back and forth regularly". If you've used the same phone number on your iPhone then the chances are other iDevices assume that any text message should be sent via iMessage rather than regular SMS.

Some or All, none of Google's apps are essential.

I think people wanted something other than Apple and the iPhone. And any app can eavesdrop on you. That's nothing new in history.

You're using an OS built around choice. Heaven forbid that there's choice among social media. Maybe everyone doesn't like FB and Twitter. No one forces you to use anything. Choose a different app or choose a different OS.

Before we get into a battle of semantics, no one is required to use Google's services, but some of the Google apps do supply necessary processes to the OS which can disable features if removed. So, you don't have to use them, but it's essential that they stay on the device.

"This app is not available in your country.".
...all people I know use WeChat, QQ or Skype. BTW where is WhatsApp available, is it US only. I've never used SMS for group messages, I know it can be done, but might be hit or miss. Also international SMS can be quite expensive, e.g. +86 to +44, unless using something like Skype.

Me? I'm a power whore. I need to be able to change out my battery. iOS doesn't let me do that. Me? I like to have an SD card. iOS doesn't let me do that, either. (In the interest of full disclosure, My Gnex does not have an SD card slot either, but it does have a lot of storage, so I'm okay with that). Me? I like to root. iOS doesn't really let me get in so deeply, as Android does. (In the interest of full disclosure, some Android phones don't let you do so either because of bootloader encryption.)

With all that being said? I am veeeery curious to see what the iPhone 6 Phablet has to offer. :p

I have to say that it is the "numero uno" messaging app. here in Spain too, although Line seems to be gaining ground at least where I live!:smokingsomb:

See Line is coming up same as WhatsApp.

"This app is not available in your country.". Obviously geo-restricted availability. Same with iTunes store in as well, neither WhatsApp or Line are available for iOS or Android here. So one has to use same messaging app as everyone else you know uses, which to me is mainly WeChat and Skype. And those are available everywhere AFAIK.
