I give up,put sdcard into card reader and went to format then it says cannot format this card unrecognised
Format the SD card in your phone, (Settings > Storage), after you have updated to KitKat, stock firmware.
so i went to use odin to flash kt kernel after extracting files to get the file to use and all odin can see is META.INFO and SYSTEM FILE. no tar file,i was hoping to flash phiz.then the lte modem,
too old for this i think i would like to go back to stock 4.3 if poss ,if not dont know what to do .
I take it that you have already updated to stock, KitKat, firmware with a stock kernel and have rooted and now flashed Echoe ROM v12.1 which comes with its own modified kernel. The KT, AOSP, kernel is flashed as a .zip file in PhilZ custom recovery mode to replace the modified Echoe kernel. No extraction needed.
Here are the steps I suggest, laid out in order...
1. Back up everything on your phone/SD card
2. Factory Reset phone, (no SD card).
3. Flash, via Odin, the Samsung stock KitKat firmware and ensure it boots up. I suggest, stock unbranded UK firmware,
i9505XXUFNB8
4. Format SD card in phone. N. B. If you do not want a rooted phone with a custom recovery, ROM and kernel, skip to item #8.
5. Root your phone and install PhilZ recovery as per the
Rooting Galaxy S4 - Dummies Guide
6. Install the ROM of your choice by flashing .zip file in PhilZ recovery mode, following the developers instructions.
7. Install the KT kernel of your choice by flashing .zip file in PhilZ recovery mode.
8. Sync your phone to your Google account and download, Contacts, Calendar, apps, etc:
9. Copy your music, photos, etc; back to SD card.
Once you have flashed a stock KitKat firmware you cannot revert to Jelly Bean, 4.3.
