Is it Illegal to update my android to an "UNOFFICIAL" OS like Jelly Bean?

See i have this Motorola Atrix 2 and apparently t cannot update through the update software option in the About Phone area on the phone; but i have read about it being possible to update to an unofficial android OS such as Jelly Bean...even though they didn't release it officialy. And i want to know if it is even legal to do that or not, and why either way.

Please someone help me i don't wanna do anything illegal :) thanks! :)

Hi Cameron, welcome to the Forum.

I think you may be confusing illegal actions with actions that will violate your Terms Of Service (TOS) with your carrier / service provider, or that will void your phone warranty. This site won't help you do anything we know is illegal but violating your TOS or warranty is your decision. See this link for the site policy on this.
