Help Help with seemingly dead S4

So a couple weeks ago my S4 (which I have had for almost 2 years now) wouldnt lock when I pushed the power button...so I popped out the battery to restart the phone thinking it was hung or something.

Since that moment, the power button has not worked. I was able to remove and re-insert the battery like 20 times...every time I did it would vibrate and try to boot, but usually the Galaxy S4 screen would disappear prematurely and it would stop booting. After about 20 times, it went through to the swirly blue samsung logo screen and successfully booted.

Once booted it worked fine...except that the power button didnt work, so I couldnt turn the phone on or off, or lock the screen.

A couple days later i let my battery die on me and again it took maybe 50 tries to get the phone on...and this continued for a week or so but I was dealing with it since when it was on, it was working fine (except for that power button).

Then on Saturday morning I woke up...phone was on as indicated by blinking blue light in corner, but the home button was not"waking it up"....so I removed the battery to try to restart again and the phone has not worked since.

It basically vibrates, and the samsung galaxy s4 screen appears for 1/2-3 or so seconds (it varies)...but then disappears prematurely and boot halts.

At the moment I cant even do the recover boot thing where you hold volup/home/power as it boots...but last week I was getting to the initial recovery screen but the phone would then go blank immediately just like it does when the gs4 logo is showing.

If you can help me fix it, thats terrific, but I would be more interested at this point in figuring out how to get any data that might be on there off of the on-board memory? I am not sure if all my photos were on my SD card or not....any thoughts?

Sure sounds like a stuck or broken power button to me.
Being its dead I'd suggest tapping the side of the S4 where the power button is lightly.
Dirt and junk from 2 years use can make the button stick on or off. That what it seems you are describing that it randomly turns on.
I have also heard this tapping works when you lose your horizontal and vertical picture/screen position changer.
