Root How to take zv6 update without breaking root.

You have to delete it then reboot, but it will stop for a while. Or at least until it downloads again.

From what I saw online the fix was mainly just to fix the stage fright vulnerability. But knowing LG they slip some other junk into it.

I kinda wish they would slip some other junk into it. Like a fix for the corporate email app that constantly loses the ability to authenticate with my company's exchange server... but only on Wi-Fi. While on 3g/4g it never has a problem.

On another thread on this forum it was mentioned that you can take the update and it wont break root. It does break TWRP though and you need to reflash it with flashify. I've not tried it yet though.

Apologies..getting a bit confused...just got update notification....am rooted on original stock rom...dont want to loose root so if I run update it sounds like u dont loose root...Is that correct?

Not sure, I lost root when going from ZV4 to ZV5 then from ZV5 to ZV6 but it wasn't difficult to root it again with the LG One Click Root tool.

Does anyone know whether the update.zip that's on the Google drive is for Odex vs. Deodex ? And should it matter ? I'm getting an error when I try and update which seems suspiciously like it does matter. I'm updating the deodex V5 version.

Verifying current system...
"/system/app/LGWeather.odex" has unexpected contents.
Error executing updater binary in zip

Anyone have any ideas ?

The update contains just patches, but once installed will be odexed. The reason that is erroring out is because you have either deleted or modified system apps, and that is causing the update to fail. Updates are designed to check for existing system apps and certain system files, and if it detects they have been changed or removed it will not install.

Thanks. I did remove some things I didn't want when I first updated to v5. That'll explain it.

I was having similar issues with my company's GoDaddy hosted email. I don't know if this is applicable, but I changed the ports from unsecured (110,25) to secured (995,465) and haven't had an issue since. The ISP you're going though on Wi-Fi may not like the unsecured ports since they have been so badly abused over the years.

It wasn't until my boss (owner) allowed me to get into the company's email account settings to fix a few things that I found out we could use different ports.

I used OtaconEmmerich file that he put up (Thanks OtaconEmmerich) and after I upgraded with the file, I can no longer use my data service. I can switch to enable data but it does not work anymore. I tried to flash the radio file for the zv6 again but still no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks

If you look on the first page, it was discovered in the update script that the radio, which didn't change, doesn't get flashed anyway.

The ONLY real way to stop all updates is to remove google apps pretty much. Some say they have had success keeping gapps by turning off play services notifications...well isn't the case here. Phone currently wasting 88.2 megs of my data downloading a bullsh*t update I dont want or need. So got two choices really. Keep going through these methods to regain root just to have lg screw it again for an update that is a complete waste of data or delete gapps and go rouge for app needs. The second choice works for me. As soon as this garbage finishes I am tanking google garbage completely.

FWIW I installed zv6 over the weekend and lost root but I got it back quite easily by rerunning the one-click root found here. In order to get zv6 to install, I first had to undo the change I made to build.prop to enable tethering. It wont install if there are any changes to build.prop. I also moved the update.zip file from /cache to the external SD card and used flashify to install it.

Here's how I keep root after doing a LG update

--Keep a TWRP Recovery Image in your external_SD
--Keep a SuperSU flashable zip in your external_SD

An easy way to keep your phone rooted is by doing as so

Make sure you read all these steps carefully

1. Flash TWRP Recovery image (Any way you want...Whether it be from the LG Multitool, fastboot, an application, etc)
2. Let the update install but don't click "Restart & Install"
3. Reboot (BY THE POWER MENU: For some reason I don't know why...but if I do a hard reboot or reboot from adb it won't work...) Anyways...Reboot Into Recovery By holding the volume down and the power button while the phone is turned off
4. Once in recovery, tap "Install" and search the /cache directory....there you will find 4 folders and an update.zip file Select the update .zip and swipe to confirm the flash
5. Wait for the zip to finish installing and then click home
6. Flash the SuperSU zip you put on your sd card and then flash the twrp recovery image by tapping "Install" and selecting "images" and flash it as recovery

7. And just to make sure you keep TWRP recovery I suggest you reboot to recovery and then flash BOTH the superSU and the TWRP image

8. When you boot up you should still have root AND you should still have TWRP as your recovery!

And that's it! That's how I keep root after installing updates

OK got it downloaded to my sdcard, so you say put it in system, I have rom toolbox pro and it wanted to flash the script via twrp, but you seem to use a file root manager/browser I also use ea file manager, maybe that can do it? Please help, I'm almost there. So I'll start by making a backup in twrp like you said, than hopefully I'll hear back with a few more hints! Again thank you all very much kwknott you too!
Did Manage to zv6
