Help Lose network frequently.

Fyi
As a bare trade up WITHIN 90 days, you'd be charged based on suggested retail price, not the promo pricing.
Hopefully you're paying insurance, or will sign up prior to exchanging.

And if you need to, point them to this thread and the other independent one in these forums.

PS I just had a disconnect... Averaging one per day. Two days ago one call where the callee could not hear me.

And I've toggled on/off the Qualcomm Izat Advanced Location.

I took a look at the current MetroPCS lineup, I'll be looking elsewhere. K10 too big, Stylo 2 too big, K7 very deficient spec wise. I won't buy Samdung, Alcatel, Coolpad or any of the other lower end ZTE they have.

I'm just gonna bring my Nexus 5 back to service and ship this Zmax back to east Korea or wherever it came from for a warranty claim. The ZMPro forum is stagnant; I don't see any hope for this phone with or without Nougat update :/

Don't hate. A 3 year old nexus 5 is still better than this pos.
Off topic but this analogy brings to mind my old galaxy exhibit.
I just picked it up to park a number. The Samsung apps are still updating, CM 12 AND 13 have arrived.
I was like, Dang! This Jellybean phone now has Marshmallow... along with its USB 2 OTG, removable battery, ALL the Coms: NFC/Cast/WFD...
The Samsung bloatware now seems very helpful...
3-1/2 years later you can't do half the things on the new pieces-err phones.

just noticed a partial culprit -
phone in folio /removed from pocket/ opened folio /notification screen already pulled down & Data shortcut already toggled off.
May need to remove Data + perhaps Airplane Mode icons.

Things otherwise stabilized- almost a full day with no disconnect.

Waiting on software patch.

Have not brought this up on ZTE forums. Don't want them poking around & potentially messing up Tether unless absolutely necessary.

Thank you MC, I was gonna post something very close to that, been biting my tongue all day.

@ZMAX4EVER don't trash up on a phone I'm assuming you've never owned. Being 2.5 years old it would still outperform a ZMax, all while never missing a call. Solid performance, and damn near un-brickable. I also have the added bonus of installing any OS and UI that I want, unlocking bootloader and rooting at my leisure. Something you lol sorry, the Zmax will never have.

Face it. It's a jewel encrusted turd, mine being a but more nutty I guess. Anyway, I'm truly sorry that ZTE failed to meet even my low standards, but whatever. Hope the update works out for you guys.

When they make a 6" Nexus phone with a microsd slot, be sure to let me know.

Thank you :)

I have used but never owned a Nexus and I have no desire to own one. I own a ZMAX PRO because I chose it... not because I settled for it. If you offered to trade me a Nexus for it... I'd say "no thanks". So far, zero problems with my ZMAX.

Everyone has their preferences, mine happens to be a bare minimum 5.7" screen size (preferably 6" or more).

I sincerely hope the people having issues with their ZMAX get them resolved, very unfortunate they purchased a defective unit. But, it could have been worse, they could have ended up with an exploding Samsung or an iPhone with touch screen disease. You know, just your average catastrophic issues on those "flagship phones."

Regarding the connectivity issues that several of you have reported with the ZMAX, what is the network like in your area? It would be interesting to see if the issues are limited to a particular region.

I've been experimenting with my phone to try and replicate the network issues people are having and I've got nothing. I tried leaving my phone upside down when I travel, been using the subway a lot, I haven't been using wifi at all at home for the last like 4 days. It works all the time without any issues. The closest I ever got was once I had Youtube open when I got in the subway, of course there's no signal underground in the subway, I had to close and reopen Youtube even after reconnecting but my phone calls and texts still went through fine. I never had to toggle my network on and off to get it work.

I don't know guys. Maybe it has to do with your area? Just throwing guesses out there, I live in Brooklyn and Metro is pretty big here so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I've never had any problems in Manhattan or the Bronx either though.

If having a solid 4-5 bars of signal is a network issue, go ahead and work with that. It's not network related for me. My last two phones never lost network. My wife's current phone doesn't lose network. My ZTE drops signal randomly, without any particular gesture, folio, orientation, position, upside down, right side up, particular apps opened or closed, Bluetooth on or not, WiFi used or left off all day. No rhyme. No reason. Sometimes three times a day. Sometimes 10 times a day. Sometimes it wakes up with dead connection. Sometimes connection dies while actively surfing the web. Sometimes while listening to Spotify, sometimes while Pandora is running.

****IT'S THE FIRMWARE****

Can anybody with network problems please reply with your software version??

I would like to see if those of us having connectivity issues share the same baseband, hardware and firmware. Perhaps Fanboy, chum-chum and the rest of you with no issues have a different firmware or baseband (problem may be caused by baseband file or something RIL related.)

Participate if you want, or don't. I don't care either way, I'm only trying to help. Attached is my info:

That's very noble of you :)
Annnddd... you get around

I dug myself a hole by not exchanging right away... So as to not risk missing the Folio - that was some Mickey Mouse process.
Now it's so long that an exchange is a real pain.
And by now I don't mind all this so much - in exchange for hopefully learning something useful from the debugging process.
Easiest thing is to swap out while not learning a thing.
It'd be easy also to complain @ zte forums, but I don't want to risk any fix affecting tethering.
This is why I'm putting my neck on the line by disobeying the direct order to exchange from 4-star General Z

I get disconnected in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, North & South Jersey.

It's lately stabilized to 1 or 2 a day.

I'll wait thru the expected patches, as anyhow - within a month we'll likely see some nice new phone releases... why go thru that whole process twice.
And it's not like all the other stuff that needs fixing will get fixed, without even mentioning root(nobody from zte has replied to this at their forums, in spite of answering other queries, & addressing this topic for the Axon line... for which I do realize is easier).

Yeah I have a busy week sometimes, lol.

Hopefully it's not a legitimate hardware issue. I don't think there could be multiple hardware revisions of the Zmax Pro since we're all first run users. I've seen different machines produced at the same time have different screens because they were produced in different factories but it's hard to know if that's the case here. Hopefully it's just a software quirk that might fix itself with Nougat if they bring it here.

My info is the same... which further leads me to believe that it's perhaps a defect with a few phones, or perhaps there is indeed an issue with the firmware but it only reacts in relation to specific geographic locations, regions or network types. I'm in Las Vegas... and I haven't had the loss of network problem.

I'm trying to help as well. I wasn't the first one to trash talk a phone. Before calling the ZMAX a cheap POS... think about those of us who are enjoying the phone without problems. I used the explosive Samsung's and the iPhone touch disease to illustrate that those phones could be called expensive POS by some users. So... let's realize that this isn't the first phone to have some issues and work to find a solution.

Btw... I hope you folks are happy, you made me paranoid. Today when T-Mobile had their nationwide outage I thought I was experiencing a ZMAX PRO disconnect problem. Haha. I was contemplating the message I would need to write here to eat my words. Haha. Thankfully it wasn't my ZMAX having a problem... it was ALL of T-Mobile :)

Talk about inconvenient!!!

You know, that's a good point.
I'm on Metro.
As an aside, I didn't have an outage - besides two quick ones resolved with a toggle.

Well I guess software/baseband theory is aside. I tried looking for hidden menus and settings, and they're locked down pretty tight, either denied access or can't make changes..

So, previous encounters with different phones, when network goes out, signal goes blank with an X, and no data icon. When I lose connectivity with this ZTE, it still shows strong signal and 4G LTE. So is my phone blocking the connections, or am I losing them? Watching active phone status says it's connected even when it seems it has nothing....

The fix could be something as simple as a build prop edit. I can read it, but no root, so I can't change any values.

The build.prop XML for the Zmax is very odd looking, much different than many other phone XML files I've torn through. Maybe because it's a generic made to cover all variations, maybe because it's..... ZTE. Still looking...

Yeah this morning at like 2AM I rebooted my phone and my service just completely died for like 30 minutes. I thought my Pro was having a fit before I looked into it and saw Metro/T-Mobile's service just imploded for some reason. Such bad timing, lol.
So I missed it by a coupla hours.
And you're Metro, so that nixes any issue re prioritizing...

I still have not had a network disconnect, and I wonder why it happens to some phones and not others? The closest thing I've encountered is the big Tmo service outage last night and I can confirm what you're saying about how the phone reacts. Several times the network would come back (as Tmo was trying to fix it) and (while watching the signal status in the "about" options) the ZMAX would say "connecting". When it would fail and switch to "disconnected" the network was shown as still active. It would take quite a while to switch to "x" icons (and sometimes never did). To get the phone to fully disconnect and reconnect properly I had to turn data off and wait.... then back on again (the phone would sometimes STILL show the data/connected icon, even though not connected). Not sure if any of this helps, but it's the only time I've seen the phone going on and off network... and it did seem to behave oddly when doing so, showing conflicting info via status bar icons.

Other than the TMO outage, I haven't had any disconnects. I'm not sure what that means or why some do and some don't?

Update: After reading the experiences of others during the Tmo network ourage, it sounds like most phones reacted the same way. So... not sure if any of my above observations mean anything.

So I'm pretty sure the problem is with LTE. I turned off LTE and I haven't had a disconnect for 3 days
I just set this n rebooted, and noticed my icon still says 4g/lte... @ 4/5 bars.
This is exactly the setting i wanted - but the way it's labeled I never wanted to try it - it implies hspa maximum.
This should actually be the default for everyone.

BlankBox, I think you hit the bullseye - time confirming this fix.
