My phone is password protected. When traveling on a long trip using Google Maps, is there a way to turn off the display to save battery and then go back to the map without having to reenter my password? I am on Android 6.0.1.

Depends on your phone. You can always use the fingerprint scanner if it's positioned well (in front).

Other then the phone dialer I don't think I've seen an app that can bypass the lock screen password after turning the screen back on.
You could temporarily change your screen lock settings to None or Swipe if your phone has the option.
1. Go to the phones settings
2. Tap Security
3. Tap Screen Lock
4. Choose the option you want (None or Swipe)

Sounds like there's not a direct way without changing settings. On my tablet if I pin the app and close the case cover it turns off the display until I open the cover again, but this doesn't work with the phone. I guess I'll have to change the security settings each time as suggested.
