[How-To] Manually Update Nexus One to Android 2.2 FRF91 (7/1/2010)

I tried it, and everything installed as explained above, however after the reboot under firmware version it still says 2.1-update1

Obviously not this newfangled Froyo 2.2.

Any thoughts as to why it did not take?
I should mention that my Nexus One already has the pinch zooming, and had it before the 2.2 update.

Thanks in advance.

Just wait until the OTA(Over The Air update) from Google. The one that you want to install and a lot of us have already is just a test build. That's going to get updated soon. :D

The test build works mostly on T-Mobile 3G Nexus One.

Pinch to ZOOM IS native in 2.1... 2.1-update1 enabled multitouch.

I've been using cyanogen 5.0.7.1 which is his newest build for a few days now, and I absolutely love it. I came across the manual update to froyo process and decided to try it. Nand backuped my cyan install, and flashed to the pre-release of froyo without radio update (on ATT, and heard mixed things about the radio update). I didn't stay long sadly because my signal strength went from around -75 to around -90 while on froyo.

This could be because I didn't do the radio update, but I didn't stay on froyo that long to investigate. I'm happy on cyan, and I figure I'll just wait until cyan cooks up a froyo rom :D

I just wanted to share my experience with the pre-release of froyo in-case anyone else was considering it. If anyone has questions, or would like to share their experience, please share!

I'm so INCREDIBLY happy I traded my droid incredible for my new nexus one :D I tried to stay on stock for as long as I could.... Nexus was rooted on day 2 ;)

Well I have been on the pre-release Froyo ROM since it came out and have had very few issues. Everything works fine (other than maybe, the Portable Hotspot function but it might just be me - not played with it much anyway).

Battery life is not much different to Cyan.....maybe slightly worse. It doesn't seem to use as much power when being actively used (internet e.g.) - this i am guessing is the JIT enabled?).

Flash works okay when set to OnDemand - would hope the lag issue is solved when it comes out of Beta.

Overall, a better experience than 2.1

If you try it, would recommend flashing the radio.

Actually, I am interested why you switched from the Incredible??

Here's a quick, noob question. When this is officially released via OTA, how exactly will that work? Will EVERYONE (AT&T + T-Mobile users) get this at the same time, or will it be one then the other, or will it be a staggered released where some may get it before others regardless of provider? Or does no one know and we're just hoping for the 1st scenario?

Yes! Just updated my UK phone, worked a treat, although my calendar apps no longer work. Pure calendar widget, pure grid calendar and calendar pad. Main calendar app works fine. Phone much snappier now and little tweaks keep showing up. Excellent.
Hi,
Did you use the link to the update on the google servers or the one on the mediafire.com link that Fabolous posted. Also does anyone know what the MD5 or SHA-1 is for the update from the Google servers?

Thanks in advance

Here's a thorough run through of everything that FroYo brings:

Android 2.2 Froyo: everything you ever wanted to know -- Engadget

Unfortunately, for now, this method is only for stock users of the "T-Mobile" version of the N1. If you are rooted and have an unlocked bootloader, I have special instructions below.

Manual Update Instructions

1. Download file from the following link(s):

https://android.clients.google.com/packages/passion/signed-passion-FRF50-from-ERE27.1e519a24.zip

signed-passion-FRF50-from-ERE27.1e519a24.zip

2. Rename the file to update.zip

3. Note that if you're using Windows and don't have "show file extensions" turned on in the file explorer you won't see a .zip. Just rename it to "update" (no quotes, of course) because it's already a zipped file.

4. Copy the update.zip file onto the root of your microSD card (that means not in any folders)

5. With your Nexus One off, hold down the trackball and press the power button.

6. You'll be booted into a white screen with three Android robots on skateboards. Select "Bootloader."

7. On the next screen, select "Recovery."

8. Your phone will reboot, giving you a picture of the Android robot and an exclamation point inside a triangle.

9. Now press the power button and volume up button at the same time. It could take a couple of tries.

10. Now (using the trackball this time) choose "Apply sdcard:update.zip" and let things run their course.

Taken (and modified) from the update-1 instructions on:
How to manually update your Nexus One | Android Central

Special thanks to:

cedriCz_ : For the link to the file on Google's servers
inspiron41 : For the instructions
Androidcentral: For the instructions
Cyanogen: For rooting 2.2!!

Special Instructions for AT&T N1 owners

This file is an update from ERE27 to Froyo, which means that if you want to use it, you will manually have to install ERE27 first, then run this file to get your frozen dessert. This requires you to unlock your bootloader!

Special Instructions for Rooted Users

You can get this update, which has been prerooted for you by Paul @ MoDaCo. You know the drill on how to install these ROMs:

FRF50 (Froyo) pre-rooted update zip - Android @ MoDaCo

UPDATE: Froyo has been rooted! (this is optional)

Quick rooter for stock FroYo systems - xda-developers

Install this file the same way you installed the 2.2 update file.

Hi as you seem clued up, may I ask a question.
I have purchased a phone on the internet that appears to be a HTC Passion copy. I dont know how to set up the bluetooth or internet on the phone and am wondering if some software is missing from it. Can you give any advice?
The Blue tooth doesnt have anywhere for me to select the device. And I cant even get it to pair or activate. Suggestions?

doesnt work for me i get error E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

*edit apparently this update doesnt work for the ATT/Rogers model

i also had this issue. just want to share my experience. I am a dominantly mac user. when i had this problem, i was using mac to download the said file from mediaring. my mac automatically opened the file into a folder, which i had to compressed it to a zip file - this doesn't work. i had this error.

i suspect is the issue with mac, or maybe not. in anyway i switched to a Dell machine running on windows 7 ultimate. downloaded the package and copy the file to my N1 and wa la, it works! though i have to emphasize that the error message still appears but it (Froyo) install without a hitch. note: when windows downloaded the package, it was without extension shown but it is still a zip file, just rename the package to 'update' as per the instruction on this thread.

a little background:
my set was bought from Google Webstore without a contract and the build was ERE27. as stock as it can be :D

hope this piece of info will help those who are having similar issue.

My suggestion is not to buy cheap rip offs in the first place and then waste other peoples time asking for help to get it working.

Sorry but your post is ridiculous.

I am at my wit's end here. Seriously, if you can help me get Froyo on my N1, I will PayPal you $30 (for real).

I have unlocked the bootloader on my Nexus One (the AT&T version), which allegedly is supposed to allow me to install custom ROMs. But whenever I try to apply update.zip, I get the error E: signature verification failed.

At the moment I'm trying to insall the stock ERD79 ROM so that I can install the ERE27 ROM so that I can install the FRF50 ROM.

I also get the error E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command when booting into recovery mode.

The phone is not rooted, and I am trying to install stock ROMs here.

Any help would be SUPER appreciated.
