Alarm clock on jelly bean

I recently got a Nexus 7 and its my first time with jelly bean. I have an old Droid X also. Is it just me or did the built in alarm clock app get worse? The fade in feature seems to be gone and there are just a few alarm sound options, all of which sound like the phone is ringing (they are ringtones). Do they just assume you'll get a 3rd party alarm app or what? I always prefer to use the standard stuff if I don't have special requirements...

The Droid X used the Motorola Blur alarm clock, not the standard Android one the Nexus had. The stock apps differ per manufacturer.
