Are they supposed to light up? I don't think so.

Mine don't light up when charging. That annoyed me about my Droid. I didn't like those buttons being lit while it was charging.

Hm, any way to change this? I read in bed a lot at night when charging is necessary and navigating is tough without the buttons lit. I read in the dark because my husband is usually already sleeping.

Are you saying they don't light up while charging when you wake the screen up? Mine is sitting in front of me on the charger and when I wake up my screen the bottom buttons do light up.

Edit: well that is really weird, just tried it a second time and now they do NOT light up. hrmm....

Edit #2: ok, if I wait about 15 seconds after the screen is on, they then do light up again.

Edit #3: ok, it almost seems like if they don't light up, if you set the screen down flat, they will then light up.

Mine won't light up sometimes at all. Is there a fix for this?

I've noticed this as well. I think I had the charger plugged in when the 4 buttons wouldn't light up

Did you guys mess with rooting your phone or something? I have heard complaints that lights stop working after you root.

Mine is plugged in right now & all 4 lights are working fine

I did a couple tests. I think it has to do with the auto light sensor. I moved my phone from direct sunlight from the window into a dark corner and the lights on the bottom kicked on in a few seconds...

Yeah, you might be on to something. I have auto-brightness checked. I wonder if it is unchecked if they are just always lit?

LOL "auto brightness" checked or unchecked it still turns on or off whether in direct light or darkness... I think the 4 buttons only kick on according to the light.

Mine are not lit up right now (3pm CDT) however, when I cover up the light sensor at the top of the phone near the speaker, they light up. Haven't really tried it in the dark yet.

The buttons stay lit as long as the screen is on from the first time you plug it in. Once the screen is off while plugged in the buttons no longer stay lit.
