Help Can't update to latest firmware on Galaxy S

Hi
I've just bought a used Galaxy S GT I-9000 (unlocked) which is running 'Eclair' 2.1 update1. I have a Mac and have downloaded Kies but get a message 'GT I-9000 does not support firmware upgrades'. There is no 'software update' item in 'about this phone' either. I'm pretty stuck and any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am in the UK, using GiffGaff on O2

Update your Kies and then try again.

Otherwise use Odin to flash any firmware of your own choice.

What is your current firmware version number ?

I had a similar problem when I bought mine second hand, someone had messed, and I worked out that the CSC code on phone (region code) did not match the Kies region code.

You can check your CSC by typing *#272*IMEI#

If your in UK you should see XEU, or CPW if not you can change it (this will reset your phone and lose data)

You should probably be able to find other country codes on XDA, or google.
