Help Do Wi-Fi and GPS toggles use battery?

I've always kind of wondered, whats the point of these? Why not just always leave them on?

The wi-fi and GPS toggles specifically, do they run down the battery faster when you leave them on? Assuming for example, you arent currently in a wi-fi area (or not a wi-fi source the phone knows) for the wi-fi one?

The toggles themselves do not run battery down.

GPS will cause a little bit of battery drain if left on at all times and you have location services on as well.

Most people find that leaving Wifi on does not cause any battery drain and some even say they get better battery life with wifi on at all times regardless of whether or not they are in a wifi covered area.

Short answer: Nope.

Long answer: As svt_gEEk mentioned, it's minimal for GPS. Depending on how many services you have running and how many of them are polling for location info (like weather widgets, traffic widgets, etc). But it should still be minimal regardless.
