yes .... i have noticed this for a while. thought about taking a sharpie to it but i probably wont. it could either come off on my ear or it may be a noticeably different shade of black. guess i have to live with it :/

I used a permanent marker and the color wore out after a few days. It was a lighter shade of black but it was better than having the metal showing. Now I'm thinking of trying something more permanent like black ink.
I noticed it immediately on the "+" and "-" keys on the side. Still dark, but two different shades. Also, my "END" button, when looked at closely in the dark, there's some of the metallic paint chipping off at the bottom. Kinda sad. Wonder how long it will last.

yikes. so you mean the volume rocker is starting to turn different colors and wear down? and the off button as well? that would look pretty bad if it exposed that yellowish plastic that always seem to be under chrome paint plating. not a very attractive look.
Mine started to come off on my old Eris when I left change in my pocket. Luckily I had a screen protector on cause the quarter left a round spot on it too.
Must have rubbed in my pocket while I walked. Thank god for screen protectors! I don't keep change in my phone pocket anymore.
Same thing happened to my Eris. I also rubbed the remaining black off and actually like how it looks with the silver ear piece. Makes it stand out against other Eris phones.
Yep mine was wearing within a month. I am considering brushing it with a bit of model enamel to see if that stays longer. If not I will prob do like the other guy and wipe it totally to the silver.
I have had the Verizon rubber case on since day one so mine still looks brand new. I don't touch the volume buttons because they are covered by the case (and it has a place to push on the case so you know where they are) and my ear never touches the phone because of the case, plus I often use speaker phone. I have had mine since the first week it was released.

I have an old laundry marking pen called "rub-a-dub" that I've used for odd things such as a scratch on the black casing of my outside car mirror on the driver's side. Believe me, it won't come off.. I did sand it off one time when nothing else worked because I'd overdone it in places.
If my Eris ever wears through on the ear-piece or anywhere else it's black, it's my rub-a-dub to the rescue.
Yeah - so what - rubbed mine all the way off and like others here have said - the silver looks cool too....no other visable wear on mine and I have had it since day 1
Are you guys talking about the little grill over the speaker? Mine looks the same as it did when I opened the box, but I use bluetooth 90% of the time.
