Here is the Samsung Galaxy S Epic 4G review by Gizmodo, they say Epic is better than the Evo in everyway.

Sprint Epic 4G Review: The Best 4G Phone

They didn't say that at all.

I personally appreciate your help. We were going to reserve one but now that I know that apps from the Market won't install, we're skipping it.

And didn't I ask you once already to not come around again until you had your arms around facts you could handle? Let me help you with that.

Wolf Creek Ski Area is closed for the 2009-2010 ski season. Wolf Creek's midway base at closing was 100 inches. Year-to-date snowfall at Wolf Creek is 432 inches.

Sorry guys but I think I'm switching to the dark side (epic). I love my evo but the samoled screen, hardware keyboard, and gpu make the epic too hard for me to resist. I won't make my final decision until I get a side by side of the phones but it looks like I'll probably be switching. With that said, these are two of the best devices on the market and picking one over the other is just a matter of personal preference.
Side Note: I really should have started this thread in the lounge as seeing as we are in an Evo subforum, we're going to get pretty biased reviews

The Giz review is really slapped together and contains a factual error that renders the entire review a piece of hackwork. The writer originally claimed that the Evo screen was OLED -- it is, of course, LCD, and it does not wash out in the sunlight. But he claims the Evo screen does. What I believe happened is that the writer thought the Evo had OLED like the Incredible which does wash out in the sunlight based like for like. Fair assumption to make (if he weren't wrong), but if you touched an Evo for 5 seconds, you'd know that it doesn't wash out in the sunlight. So I'm pretty sure the guy never even touched an Evo in the first place. I get the feeling most of it was written before the review unit was even sent out. The foregone conclusion? Epic is the best 4G phone. But how would he know if he's never even used an Evo?

And any review of a Galaxy phone that doesn't touch on the GPS issue is incomplete.

Let's face the facts here dude, Evo is not so good in sunlight. I've had mine since launch day and it's just a fact.

I still prefer Evo over Epic by far, but still.

Yes, but it isn't "washed out" like an OLED screen. He obviously wrote that because he thought the Evo had an OLED screen, and not because he's ever used an Evo for more than 5 minutes. Yet he confidently states that the Epic beats the Evo in every way? The Evo screen works better than the SAMOLED screen in direct sunlight.

I'm also baffled that he's one of the few people outside of Samsung employees who seems to like Touchwiz.

he also claimed that the htc website siad it was oled which it does not say.

The slide out keyboard makes having a case a problem, plus it's already made out of lightweight plastic

TouchWiz looks like crap to me also. Even though I use Launcher Pro, Sense is satisfying, where as TouchWiz looks like it should be on a much cheaper phone. It's not visually pleasing at all.

Coincidently, the exact same issue we had on the Samsung Moment. There is nothing on Earth that will piss you off more than having a phone in your pocket that can't do basic GPS stuff....Epic fail!!! Samsung SUCKS!!! And that phone is ugly anyway. Sorry, that just woke up the frustration that I had with the Moment.

I highly advise anyone thinking of going to this phone to think again. If they can't get it right model after model, that just goes to show you what kind of crap they are putting out at Samsung. The slide out keyboard just isn't worth the frustration you will have owning a Samsung device. The Instinct was CRAP. The Moment was CRAP. And this phone appears to be following in the tradition of CRAP!!!! DON'T DO IT!!! This thing will be selling for 99 bucks in 2 months and 49 in six!!! While HTC is not perfect, they work feverishly to make sure things get corrected. Anyway, going from the Moment to the Evo was like going from a 10 year old Taurus to a Ferrari. Blah blah blah. I just can't believe they are still have this issue with their new flagship phone. CRAP I tell ya!!!!!

Like I've said before, Samsung's a megacorporation that recently decided to try to get more profit out of the mobile market. That doesn't translate into better quality products. I'm sure this phone and others will offer some innovations and have a few product successes, but mobile phones are an afterthought for this company.

Maybe the fixes will work for GPS issues.

My biggest pro for SS is that they've figured out that it's best to make like versions of the same phone for each carrier than to try to make every phone too carrier-specific. I don't think they should do that with flagship or top-end phones, but I don't thing the Galaxy line is their top-end. I think they're reserving that treatment for WM7 and LTE/Wimax-ready phones in 2011 and beyond.

I'm in the process of deciding what phone to get (currently I've got a touch diamond). I'm not a samsung (or Galaxy S series) hater... I have a samsung a920 that's a great little flipphone, but the GPS issue is important to me and would need to be fixed before I would consider this phone.

And this whole post is opinionated ... wait for it ... crap.

There are plenty of happy Samsung instinct and even Samsung Moment owners.

There are plenty of blissfully ignorant Samsung instinct and even Samsung Moment owners.

There, I corrected it for you.

To be honest with you, I did not know how bad the Moment was(blissful ignorance?) until I got a phone(Evo) that actually worked. It is quite refreshing.

And most people really don't care. Since we are obviously the minority here, it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, now does it?

Samsung owners exist on "maybe they will fix it on the next update???"!!!! The Moment has been out 10 months???...and the phone is near worthless. They also pulled the same CRAP with launching the phone with "yesterday's version" of Android.....again.....oment owners begged for 1.6(current version at the time and available at launch) and never got it...they finally got a bone and got 2.1...after waiting 6 months with 1.5. Anyway, the Epic 4G is already walking like a duck and talking like a duck. Not passing the sniff test with me because that smell is quite familiar.

Sorry IOWA, nothing personal amigo. I jumped ship and paid full rice for the Evo...twice! And it was very worth it. I just can't believe they are having the same GPS issues with the Epic and then I saw they were launching it with 2.1!!!!! I guess if you root, none of this is an issue. I would assume the GPS is a hardware issue though...

Well I figure those of us who really care, are smart enough to follow the many root techniques and fix it ourselves. That being said, the Galaxy S is simply the best hardware available right now.

If there's a fix available I'm all for the phone... the screen, battery life, size, etc. are all really enticing... and I don't care if the fix comes from Samsung or from the dev community. The big concern I have is that it's a hardware issue and can't be fixed via software/firmware/drivers and that's why I'm taking a wait and see on this one.

Based on the reviews I've read, the build quality of the epic seems to be very high. Most of the complaints the reviewers had was with the touchwiz. And in this day and age of rooting and modding, I don't understand why everyone is so focused on the software side of things. With apps like LauncherPro and Beautiful Widgets in the Market, software can be customized however you like. Also, you can load custom roms with stock android onto the epic if you'd like. Hell, someone could even port Sense over to the epic if they wanted to! Whenever I buy an Android phone, my main priority will always be the hardware because I know I'll be able to change the software later. And with that piece of hardware including a blazing fast gpu and cpu, a physical keyboard and software keyboard, a camera and camcorder that's said to be on par with the iphone, and a 4 inch vibrant samoled screen that makes colors jump off the screen, the epic is looking like the smartphone to beat. And with Android's rapid growth, that defeat will probably come in a couple months but for now, I think the Epic rules the smartphone kingdom.

"Tastes differ, but we feel pretty confident in calling the Samsung Epic 4G the best smartphone on the Sprint network today."- Slashgear

"The Epic 4G's 4.0-inch Super AMOLED display absolutely mesmerized us"- CNET

"If we had to choose between the Evo 4G's larger 4.3-inch screen and the Epic 4G's 4-inch display (both 800 x 480 pixels), we'd give the edge to Samsung's phone. Thanks to Super AMOLED technology, the picture has superior contrast, richer colors, and much better viewing angles."-Laptop Mag

"IF you want a phone that combines a great typing experience with an even better entertainment experience and blazing fast data, the Epic 4G is worth the extra $50 over the other Galaxy S phones and all other superphones." -Laptop Mag

x2

Plus that whole apps thing not working - srsly - wtf, o?!?

And why do I care?

Yeap, saw it (GPS issue) - and defended the EVO in comments here -

Samsung Working on GPS Software Fix Due September for Galaxy S Phones | Android Phone Fans

Here's the thing - imagine what it's like at my house, especially with today being reservation day for the Epic:

"Hunny Bunny - now don't worry about how disappointed you are with your Moment and how much you've been looking forward to seeing the Epic. They're promising delivery by end of this month and a fix for the GPS in September."

"Wait. I'm signing up for another Samsung and you're telling me it's not 100% out of the box, while your EVO is just plain working?"

"Yeah babe, but they're fixing it in September."

<crickets chirping - many, many crickets chirping a long, long while>

"And you're sure you can root that for me?"

<the crickets go silent>

Yeah.

It was like that.

Someone said "slide out KBs are too thick"...umm this phone is only a tiny bit thicker than the Evo.

I still prefer the Evo but if you're going to trash on this phone at least do your research and get the facts straight. It's funny how people trash on Samsung without even knowing anything about this phone....HTC isn't exactly perfect either..you forgetting about the light leakage on the Evo? The screen seperation? Grounding problems?
