Factory reset kills 3g? (Sticky above)

I don't know if everyone has seen the sticky thread about factory reset killing 3g on our phones. If not, check it out.

Anyone know if this is something that just started happening? Anyone who did a factory reset affected by this?

I did it on my droid x a couple times the other day when mine stopped working. After finally getting it to connect to a tower and reprogram it has been fine. Maybe its for the people who rooted there's.;)

I did a factory reset within a few days of getting my X and its is still working. I'm not too sure I would do it again after reading that sticky.

It must have started just recently. I did a hard reset last week to fix a well documented bug and I have had no problem with 3G.

So maybe there are activation issues right now then? I thought that was reported when the X first came out.

And when you consider that if you port a number it does a factory reset on the X that could get ugly. I know I did not port my number for 10 days and when I did it reset and the tech I spoke with said it was a feature.

This must be a recent development right? I did a factory reset when I first got my phone about a week ago and I still have 3G.

I did a factory reset about a week ago and after activation did not have a 3g connection. I did another reset, right afterward, and it was working again.

Absolutely ridiculous to have a sticky at the top of the forum about this issue in the manner that it is presented. It's overly alarmist, implies that everyone will have the issue(which is not true) and because it is locked, does not allow for anyone to mention that it's not an issue that affects everyone.

I did a factory reset yesterday and the 3g didn't come on.....what I did to fix it was go to settings, Wireless & Networks, Mobile Networks, System Select, Change from Automatic to Home, and then changed back from Home to Automatic and within a couple seconds 3G came back up. If you did the reset and have no 3G give that a try.

Whoa, are you sure about this? I'm currently on my 30-day trial with the Droid X and will be porting my number later this week. Are you telling me that when I port my old number over to my Droid X, I have to do a factory reset? I have spent a LOT of time customizing my phone and downloading apps. Are you saying I'll have to start over from scratch when I port my number? :-(

I don't think this is correct. I just ported my number over and it did not do a factory reset.

All I had to do was dial #228 (I think that's the number sequence) after the port and it activated the new number. No reset was done and the number ported over fine. They have an automated system for porting number over (can't recall the 800 number I had to call for the auto system) and the whole process took less than 2 hours.

Hmm this is wierd, I actually did a factory reset last night on my X to test my camera button problem(loose or broken, not sure but having hard time taking pics or using camcorder) and I actually got my 3G working. Just Activated and works fine even today.

Well, that's good to hear! I had read this other thread where a number of people were reporting that porting forced you to do a factory reset:

I guess I'll find out when I do it in a couple of days!

Use a program called SwithPro Widget. And make sure you make data connection one of your options. It could be quite possible data connection got turned off and isn't turning back on. I had the same issue. Then I started using that widget and it took care of everything.

When I had my old Droid this happened to me. Wasn't rooted but I was having issues with my phone. .reset it and 3g wouldn't work.calls and texts worked, but not 3g. Called verizon and got a replacement droid. Than 3 weeks later I got the Droid X! Go figure. Haha

You must have gotten lucky! I ported my number yesterday by calling the number and then doing a *228 (which is what I was told to use). The phone was completely wiped without warning and did a complete factory reinstall. Thankfully, I was able to get pretty much everything back up and running within a few hours, but it was a PITA!

That is exactly what happened to me and my wife. My wife had not done much to her phone but I had and it was not a very fun night.
