I'm not seeing the new places icon, do we not get this on the Desire?

Ignore that. Found it in the Programs folder.

I had this, and it took a turn off, and back on before it appeared.

    Ok, dumb question,

Does it stay in streetview if you keep driving along or will it only show the place/ junction you double tapped? Haven't had chance to try it out yet...

It seems a little flaky for me... I tried the button that searches for ATMs a few times, as an experiment*. No joy, it just says "Searching for: atms" and no results come back. Now, when I just tried it again it said something like "are you sure you want to search for The Arms" and it found a pub of the same name!

All the other search features I've tried seem OK.

*I know of at least two ATMs within 5 miles of here.

I can't update my version. Keeps downloading then saying "Installation unsuccessful". I'm running DeVillain1.0 and I've got 21.16mb of free space. Surely it doesn't need more space than this as it'll be replacing my current version.

    Help please.

Same here - ATMs just hangs but all the others work fine. Am in the middle of a town with several of them. Type ATM into Places Directory (the stand alone one) and it finds quite a few in a second or so.

Download is only 4.5MB so can't be that. Maybe try uninstalling the current one?

Places is a sub(?) app - you'll find it with your other apps along with Navigate. As described above, though it's a bit crap. ATMs shows a very sub-standard list for me with the nearest one being 5.5 miles away. If I type "atm" into the search on Maps I get one 0.6 of a mile away...

    Nice idea, poor execution.

Its a completely free app that has just been rolled out so expect some teething problems. Pretty sure google will get this fixed quickly as they always do.

Bit harsh saying 'its a bit crap'

I think the whole google navigation package is great the only thing I would like changed is the voice but again its early days and i am sure you will be able to pick from a variety soon.

What's the point in this "Places" app that is now part of maps, but a different app, when google already have "Places Directory". Think i'll have to remove "Places Directory" then to save on space as it's a duplicate app.

"Foot" "shot" "the" "in", springs to mind, if PD is not being phased out.

The "places" need some work on them for this UK user.

ATMs: Many shown but the nearest is some 5 miles away through very busy traffic. There are many much nearer to me. I would guess some 40 odd; nearest is Barclay's about 1 mile or Tesco's also 1 mile. Map view does not show any of the nearer ones (My location correctly found). List of ATMs seems to be in some random order; not by nearest?

It could be that the only ATMs it lists are in London; I am on the Eastern edge at the moment.

Gas stations. Nearest is Tesco 1 mile (where nearest ATM is) however shown is a Tesco Express also about a mile away that does not have petrol. The Tesco that has petrol is not listed or on map?

The definition of Gas Station needs some work. The second nearest gas station shown is in fact a railway station (the picture actually shows the railway station); try getting petrol there and getting away if trapped in rush hour traffic.

Have to agree with other poster,I can't see the difference between this and places directory.in fact places directory seems better.
And what has it got to do with maps cos I can't use them both at the same time so why is it a maps upgrade?

I've just installed places directory again, as Places falls down in some areas. It doesn't bring back relevant results and you can't edit icons, nor remove the standard search elements.

Take atms for example. It comes up with two searches for something not even relevant and about 50 miles away. Yet, i can add "banks" and that searches fine. Why not be able to remove "atms" or label banks?

Places looks nicer and the results section is clearer, so for now i'm keeping both. :(
