The two links I provided are to be used with a computer. You will need to plug the phone in but will not need to download anything to the phone. Just make sure it is on. Try to update it to ZVD first.

Follow these steps for a successful factory reset.




Step 1

Make sure.......that you are sure........that you are positive.........you want to do this.



STEP 2

Oh......What's this? Privacy. Factory Reset. Well that was easy enough to find huh?

STOP RIGHT THERE before you start a global thermonuclear war!!!!!


---DON'T do factory resets through the settings menu on the phone if you are rooted and have CWM(Recovery) Flashed!!!!!!----

Do you understand that? Repeat after me so i know you understand!

I,____________, Will NOT do a factory reset through Settings/Privacy every again on my rooted/Flashed Recovery Lg-Esteem.




STEP 3

You know that little thing called ClockworkMod that you flashed through ROM Manager to Install, backup, restore, etc.......?

Well that little option called Wipe data/Factory Reset is the same as doing it in the settings menu except you won't get SCREWED in the process.



TIP

Make sure you have FLASHED Cwm through ROM Manager before using the (Power+Vol/UP&DOWN) combo. Obviously if you try this and you DONT have CWM installed where is it going to go? To hell that's where. Pull your battery about 5 times until a higher power decides you worthy of having your phone back again, throw salt over your left shoulder, send out three smoke signals, do 5 jumping jacks and eventually your phone will boot as normal.



STEP 4

Thank me for saving you from a migraine.

IF you did do the unthinkable and reset your phone through the settings menu, put this on your SD card and LEAVE IT THERE http://dl.dropbox.com/u/50330810/exitrecovery.zip. Flash it through recovery and you will be good to go. Then go sit in the corner and think about what you've done. When you think you can play well with others and NEVER reset through the settings menu, you can come back out and play.

Im guessing you flashed the file right?

Did you erase anything on the phone? Phone should boot up. If its not then you might have to flash a ROM.

I'm still having issues with rom2 and my phone randomly rebooting. Now I've done a factory reset through cwm on many occasions, but it does not kill everything that I've done. If I reset, and reboot, I still have old icky theme on there mixed with a little fuzzy work and a personal badge on my lock screen.

What is the most thorough way to wipe my unit?

Downgrade/update/root again-will clear out the phone.

Sounds like you need to just wipe data and the cache's and Re install #2. Ride it out for a little bit befroe you install a theme.

I have wiped and reinstalled multiple times. This last time, I completely wiped my insternal as well.

A little tricky to wipe and reinstall though, because when I do factory reset, wipe etc.. and I boot up without a rom installed... it boots themed ick. And I have no stock keyboard.

Weird?

Anyway, ill give it a shot again, this time ill hold off on theming for a bit

i tried *228 aand when it wouldnt activate i took it to the store, they couldnt activate it either and said he had to have his repair man look it which is gonna cost a good amount of money. basically he said there might be an internal problem idk

Battery Use
Legal information
Model number
Android version
Baseband Version
Kernel Version
Build number
SW version
HW version

Actually i found the prl version and it says unknown.
