Honestly, you should probably use a better browser.

Even the majority of the most primitive browsers (those that care aout privacy, anyway) allow another option in the settings that you show above- one that is called 'webpage' - and that will allow you to set the homepage to whatever you like.

In fact, that is exactly how I use this site- by changing the homepage of a browser (Midori) to https://androidforums.com/?thread_filter=new

Try it with the following browser called Lightning.

Not actually taking about the home page, that can easily be set, I'm asking about the default search engine, they're is a choice, just not Google..Co.uk. which is suprising since it's Google own Chrome browser, and audio the most popular browsers on this planet. I did expect someone might have come across this

There may be a way to change the search engine in Chrome, but as I never use Chrome I have no idea of how to do so or if it is even possible.

I do know, however, that the Google search engine is the default in Lightning Browser, which I mentioned before.

Also, this setting is easy to find as well as easy to change- these sort of things are what makes other browsers superior to Chrome.

Google is also the default search engine in Google Chrome (no suprise)

It's also easy to change (as per my picture)

It's just not an option to change it to Google.co.uk, and certainly won't be on Lightning Browser

but that IS my question

Did you even understand my reply?
Or has inbreeding and a faoling education system taken hold so well that comprehension is beyond your ability?

The home page is set to open in a specific search engine with custom settings for that search engine.

The default search engine is whatever search engine you choose it to be.
It can be set to have individual custom settings, or most often would open with the default settings of said search engine.
This is what would be opened if you had a link that you tapped and the browser opened to that link.

You *****d *****d!
