Huawei's "Honor" brand launches partnership with Uber for Sales Gala

Smartphone e-brand forges marketing partnership with transportation game changer for customer appreciation event

Shenzhen, China, November 11, 2015 – In line with its global expansion and commitment to addressing the needs of digital natives, honor today launched an online-to-offline (O2O) marketing partnership with Uber to promote its worldwide online Gala sale event. The Uber partnership extends to six countries – Russia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and China – while the Gala event is taking place in a more than 20 countries and has already resulted in sales of over US$125 million in 12 hours on China’s Tmall platform alone.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Uber for our Gala event,” said honor president George Zhao. “As a disruptor that provides leading technology-driven solutions to meet the needs of digital natives, it’s a company with which we have a shared vision and mindset. With this year’s Gala being our largest to date, I am confident that the arrangement will benefit Uber as much as it does honor, and produce a win-win outcome for both.”

The Gala event, which is taking place across honor’s global network of e-commerce sales platforms, is the brand’s way of showing its appreciation for its digital native fans and customers, who for a limited time will have access to a wealth of discount and promotional offers.

Per the partnership with Uber, customers in Russia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and China can also indulge in the added perk of free or discounted taxi rides. Those in the Czech Republic, the United Arab Emirates and China can even participate in a sweepstakes competition, which offers them the chance to win free phones and various honor and Uber discount coupons, via the Uber app (details below). In China, honor has taken the additional step of placing QR codes at over 200 UberSTATIONs, which passersby can scan to participate in the competition directly from their mobile devices.

Jean Liu, Director of China Strategy, Uber, said: “We are thrilled to cooperate with honor, one of China’s leading smartphone brands, and look forward to the possibility of exploring more O2O cross-promotion opportunities like this. With our broad presence in over 350 cities across six continents, we believe we are in a strong position to support fast growing companies from China that are extending their reach to global consumers.”
