I just got a samsung galaxy precedent through straight talk....and I was wondering if there is a way to make the light come on when I get a message or text message?

Welcome to Android forums!
If there is a way to change it you will find it under your "message settings", and then once that is open, click "notification settings".
There should be an option to wake screen, or screen on, when recieving a text.
Depending on your phone settings, you will probably have to do the same thing for your email settings. There are some phones that have all of the message settings categorized together, but I am not familiar with your particular phone's settings.
If you don't have that option, there are other texting apps that you can download that have better options than stock text, such as Go text, or Handsent. Good luck.
