Help **Request** Ascend PRL 3020 Update Tutorial

It will switch on its own when you get 3G signal. When I first did it I only had 1x and when I went to settings/about phone to see if the PRL changed it was still on 1x receiving 1x RTT then I watched the 3G icon pop up and my signal change to EvDo Rev. A and then a couple seconds later switched back to 1x. And then it would switched to 3G again and stayed on 3G for a good half hour or so. But then I couldnt get no data to go out. So I dont if its because 3G signal isnt that good where I live or if possibly its that PRL.

Rokyn- Did you use the PRL in the guide kevinrubio posted at top or did you find a completely different one? I might try that one out too since it was so easy to use.
No,the PRL I used isn't the same as the one in the other guide. I used that one and it didn't work. Not sure if it has anything to do with it coming from an Optimus M or not.

Thanks kev
Now I know I'm in an area that should get 3g. If only I could get QPST to see my darn phone on XP!!!! Seems to work on windows 7 so I think I'm gonna partion my laptop so I can have a windows 7 partition.

take a look at this picture, at where coverage is at for 3G. BLUE=3G network PURPLE=Roaming

When they (Metro) says 3G they mean 1x. The only places that will have 3G are where they have the towers enabled for 3G. Like someone else said, they're not going to advertise 3G because "officially" they do not offer it. They're only enabling 3G in a few areas where the congestion is the most heavy. Maybe in the future they'll add it elsewhere and up the speed but honestly I doubt it. I have a feeling Metro is going to focus entirely on 4G.

yeah true but look where the blue marks are, that is where people confirm where 3G is active. In florida, California, and texas

You see the state of Florida? You see right in the middle all the way to the right/east where that cluster of dots is? I live rigt in the middle of those dots. And I had to switch back since I couldnt send out data only receive it. and Like Roykn said Metro will call 1x RTT 3G because in fact 1x RTT IS 3G. 1xRTT is often referred to as a 2.5G technology like GPRS, though it is officially a 3G technology.

I just forced this PRL and my data now works inbound and out bound. It hasnt switched over to 3g EvDo yet (probably because we have that hurricane coming up our coast and its pretty crappy out)

I did do something a little different this time tho. When I went into the roaming tab of QPST I clicked "Read phone" this time and in the fields it showed "MetroPcs" and my number and then I browsed the for the PRL and then clicked "Write to phone"

This is the same PRL that is in the guide kevinrubio posted at the top of the thread.

Well,if your 1x data is working fine then the 3G will when you have it available. As for the read from phone part I'm not sure whether it makes a difference or not but if it worked for you that way and not before, then thats good. I just wish the 3G here in Dallas wasn't as capped as it is.

This PRL stuff seems fun but until I hear about someone in Detroit/Dallas where they have 4G (meaning all 3G towers converted to 4G and absolutely no chance of 3G) I won't waste my time. 4G markets mean no 3G for MetroPCS. Regardless of what the prl says.

Yeah I came across a quick "How to guide" in the Howard forums. And everything was identical to what you posted in your guide except he said to hit read phone then browse then write. Not saying thats what caused it to work better this time because I also switched the PRLs. Which if you have played with your Ascend enough you know one thing that works for one Ascend and wont work for the other.

also depends on the area your in, and when mines came up as 3g i had 3019, so its the towers really that has been enable.

now i know there another person with the same situation lol, what type of network are you? mine is still 1xRTT

I've tried updating my Huawei Ascend's prl using the QPST trick and for some reason my phone wont show up as a port. I mean under device manager, I show it at the top listed under "Android Phone" and under it listed as "Android Composite ADB Interface". Nowhere else on the list is it listed and when I do click on the above mentioned properties it only gives "General, Driver, Details", under none of which I see the Advanced option anywhere, no com# or anything useful. I've installed with listed drivers in this same thread as well as using the ones on the phone after uninstallation. Under Ports I only have 4 ports listed, all of which are not the phone. The phone is running Metro Official 2.2 upgrade firmware, and the phone was rooted with Gingerbreak. Computer is Windows XP Professional and is up to date. Can someone please inform me as to how I can get the computer to recognize my phone under a port# please?

look under just "Ports" not the Android one at the top. The port you want is "DBAdapter Reserved Interface " Thats all it says and the (COM#) will be right next to it.

That map is flawed, My whole area is covered all of Detroit. Where do I find the 6 digit number again? Like is there an ap for that or something?

When you are in the qpst configuration and click add port. Unchecked the box that says show only serial USB. Diagnostic ports then it will show all of them

Yeah its called MEID Converter. Its free on the market. Type in your MEID- DEC which is in 2 places. On the box your phone came in or its also under you battery. Type that in and it will give you your 6 digit SPC

Mine at first wasnt showing up as a port either, this is a driver installation thing. Browse yourself over to the 'ascend_usb_drivers' folder, then 'usb_driver' folder. Then run 'DriverSetup' or 'DriverSetup64' (depending on which OS you have, this will force installation of all drivers.

Tho it shouldnt matter, I ran the installation whilst the phone was plugged in with USB storage on.

But anyhow, check your systems now to see if the Com port as shown up.
