T9 Dictionary in SMS

Ok, so I just got an Xperia Play 3 days ago and been loving it so far.
But my added words in my dictionary do not show up while texting?
It's really frustrating turning Prediction off then typing my word then turning it back on again.
Tried a new message app and a new keyboard 'Better Keyboard 8' but all to no luck.
Any help is appreciated

Normally the androids have a huge number of alternative words in T9 .. on my DHD I get 2-3 options on screen and an option to go to a further menu (a little arrow) with all the other options available. Is there any such option on your phone?

Other options are to check the online manual for your phone (usually more comprehensive than what you get in the box) and/or post to the forum specific for your phone.

Oh there are plenty of options but never any words I have manually added to my dictionary. ie; nicknames and expletives.
And no little arrow.

oh... well my next guess is that maybe the settings aren't set right? Have you checked? Usually personal dictionary is under "settings>language & keyboard> touch input" or similar....
