In the U.S. according to the Truth in Caller ID Act of 2010, it is illegal to spoof your number if you are calling someone. However, after reading through it, it says nothing about texting. Just caller ID. I guess you're free to go in the States for text spoofing.

There was a similar thread to this one a few months ago. I basically thought the same thing, that since caller id spoofing is illegal, it MUST be illegal to spoof a text message. Apparantly not. It doesnt make any sense to me, but thats just how it is.
