verizon store says no mega, true

I was visiting my local Verizon store in southern California. was looking for a phone for my wife. the sales rep. showed the Samsung line, I ask the rep. where is the mega???, he replies that Verizon is no longer selling the mega. first is this true?? and if it is true , then how can staples and Wal-Mart sell the mega for $1.00 with a trade in?? I tried to use Verizon chat, but the rep either did not understand or was pushing me to the s4....TIA

I don't believe Verizon ever had it. I think it was international, AT&T, Sprint, and Metro in that order.
