Will the EVO still be the best phone on Sprint when the Epic 4g comes out?

Choice is good. Sprint will have both types of 4G phones now. One with a slider one without. I have never owned a slider type phone before and I'm not to sure I would like it.

Played with the Galaxy S a few weeks back. My assessment......GARBAGE. Nothing like what I expected. Screen is minature compared to the EVO's, the EVO screen actually looks sharper to me (huh?), and user interface leaves a lot to be desired though truly not important - same Android in the end. I know that the EVO's screen is 'only" .3 larger on paper but in reality, it turns out to be a huge difference. I had posted earlier that much to my dismay, I could see blocked font on the Galaxy screen, similarly to the Incredible- a definite no-no for me who surf the web aplenty and read lots of book on my phone. Found out later this was a downside of the super amoled tech. To all those who continue to harp that the Sprint version will be far superior to the EVO based on benchmarks and stats, to each his own and good luck with that. I am not an EVO fanboy, just an impressed EVO owner - who continue to be amazed every day. I expected the Samsung to outshine the EVO and was not impressed one bit. Perhaps if I spent an equal amount of time with the Samsung, I would warm eventually except for the smaller screen size- I wish the EVO was 4.5 - (lol). That being said, this is obviously just my personal opinion.

And this is the textbook definition of a fanboy. Cites a lot of mix-and-match data that is incorrect, data referenced is explained wrong, showing a lack of understanding of the said data, blind devotion to a product and throwing everything in but the kitchen sink to justify said devotion.

I was going to point some of it out and then decided it wasn't worth my time. Enjoy your Vibrant. Good phone.

Personally I cant live without a physical keyboard so the Epic is perfect for me

Only downside is Touchwiz UI but I can easily replace it with LauncherPro or something else from the Android Market.

The epic has an led notification light.
Side question: If the gps on the Epic works flawlessly when it comes out, would you consider getting one?
You don't understand proof when you see it right in front of you?!

The Epic WILL NOT HAVE A WORKING GPS when it comes out.

I don't know why you think it somehow will when:
the Euro Galaxy S has severe GPS issues
the TMobile Vibrant has severe GPS issues
the ATT Captivate has severe GPS issues.
All of which have NOT been addressed by Samsung.

As it stands now- the Epic has severe GPS issues because it is inherently an identical Galaxy S phone along with it's brothers and sisters.
Common sense dictates that if Samsung somehow found a fix to their GPS problems and FIXED the problem on the Epic....then they would roll out the fix on the Vibrant and Captivate. But there isn't a fix. Which means the Epic will have the same GPS problems. Again, it's just common sense.

BUYER BEWARE.

Guys like this Samsung employee turn threads like this into bickering and get them locked. Can he be banned from this section.

There is a bug and Samsung is working on it! It isn't hardware related and it's completely fixable. Samsung has said they're working on a fix and are trying to get it out as quickly as possible. Many people are frustrated the epic hasn't been released yet but I have a feeling Sprint and Samsung are trying to fix some bugs before they release the phone. All phones have bugs when they're released! Give it some time and these isues will be fixed.

BTW, can someone show me a t-mobile phone pushing 3g faster than springs 4g. I had mobile for 10 years prior to my evo and I can load 3-4 pages in the timeout takes to load one on any of my old t-mobile phones.

Last I heard it was still up in the air if the GPS fix was hardware or software. The software changes people are making to the Assisted GPS settings do not fix the poor satellite lock problem, it helps offset the poor lock capability of the GPS chip, but doesn't fix the underlying issue.

I have no idea if Samsung is working on a fix or not but I haven't seen a press release from Samsung to that effect. I do hope samsung comes up with a fix but, if GPS is important to you I think it would be best to take a wait and see approach with the Galaxy S phones.

yes this is very VERY objective. So you know for a fact that the Epic will 100% have a non-working GPS? Just because the other ones do? A) There is a fix for it that works actually quite well, B) If you read on the captivate and vibrant forums, not EVERYONE is having these problems. C) (this is something I don't know much about, but thought I'd share) The CDMA versions of this phone have not been out yet (verizon and sprint), and the fact that they are being released much later, they may have the GPS fix already.

Also, samsung, as said before, is working on a fix.

Common sense? This is the most subjective post I have EVER read. It sounds like a huge fanboy post to me.

I don't post very often, but I think this post is just absurd. I'm still deciding on what phone to get, the EVO or Epic, and I'll decide the Epic comes out.

hmm that would be tough, would prefer a keyboard, but im used to not having it now, last 3 phones had it apache, tp, tp2 now I must say HTC makes a good product though. So that would make it hard for me, I am really used to the screen keyboard so its not a bad as I would have said a 2 months ago. Now when i think of samsung I dont think of phones though, when I think of HTC I think of phones.

More then likely I would still choose the evo just mainly based on past experiances with it. Although i wouldnt mind rocking the Samsung for a little while to try it

How bout, I like my evo and im not using my other upgrade option on my account for a phone this soon that is not much of an upgrade. Can we wait a year for some thing that is truly an upgrade to what the evo is? Also if you had an evo since launch you are probably out of any chance to get a new phone without paying retail anyway.

Also will this type of thread come up for every phone that is released from sprint? And yes I know I didnt have to click on it but instead of hearing a good discussion its the usual non sense from threads like this on this forum.

The last two phones I had both had keyboards. The HTC Mogul and HTC Touch Pro. Coming over to the evo was...different. After a few weeks with the Evo, I don't mind the soft keyboard and I've gotten use to it. But I think I prefer the hard keyboard more. It's just easier and requires less effort (you don't have to actually look when you type). Epic gets my vote

Then you have this GPS issue. I most certainly wouldn't buy a phone until something as important was that was fixed. It seems like Samsung will have the same issue with the Epic. Vote for Evo

Never actually used a Samsung so i'm not sure what their software is like. You can always throw launcherpro on it though, so maybe not a big deal for some.

Performance wise i'm happy with my Evo and i'm sure the Epic with better specs will be slightly faster, but I don't think that's a big deal. Both are good. So tie

And, imo, the Epic is pretty ugly. So Evo gets my vote in that dept.

Also, samsung, as said before, is working on a fix.

The A-GPS changes that people are making are not a fix. What they are doing is improving the performance of the assisted GPS feature (which uses cellphone signal and data to triangulate an approx. location) to offset the poor performance of the GPS chip and its's ability (or lack thereof) to lock onto multiple satellites. It helps but does not fix the problem, especially if you are in an area with limited cellphone reception.

It's true that not all folks are having this issue.

It's also true the CDMA versions of phones have slightly different hardware so the problem may be fixed in the EPIC.

Also, there has been no official announcement that Samsung is working on a fix (that I'm aware of). What a CSR tells a customer over the phone does not constitute an official response.

So, as mentioned before, if GPS is important to you wait to see how the EPIC performs before you buy.

rumored windows phone 7's in October make me glad I didn't use my upgrade. I have an evo but paid full price may use my upgrade on one of the rumored high end windows phone 7's that is coming.

I've never liked WinMo, although I hear the new one is pretty good. Do you have any links for this rumor? Curious about the phone... Not that I will be getting rid of my EVO for a while. :) Thx.

Honestly, I feel like my evo will stand up to any other phone on the market for at least a year. And people with an Evo probably feel the same way. 90% of people don't sit around doing benchmark tests against their friends phones so all the tech talk is largely irrelevant. Most people just go by simpler featues like like feel, physical kb vs on screen kb, camera quality etc. Most graphics differences are not noticable that much between these newer android phones. If you played the exact same movie file on most of these phones you wouldn't see a difference unless you are one of those people that claims to be able to see individual pixels on a screens. lol. But I'd guess that the epic will just basically be like an Evo with a keyboard. No real noticeable difference to the common phone user.

I've gotten used to not having a keyboard, but whenever I use my gf's G1, I realize how much I miss having one. I love the Evo, but would love it even more if it had a physical keyboard :) I'm just not so sure about Samsung's hardware -- maybe when my upgrade is due, HTC will have an Evo-like phone with a keyboard.

Do you know for a fact that the Epic keyboard has these keys? My last slider was on a touch pro 2, and there was no alt, ctrl, tab, or pipe key. I don't think these are common keys on smartphones.

But what keyboard doesn't have shift?

I don't know that they do, but even tab and ctrl would do it for me.

I can't believe that Windows Mobile 5 and 6 have been the only ones I've seen do it the right way (or as close to what I'd call "the right way"). Physical keyboard with as many keys as are still comfortable, and then you can still pop up a virtual keyboard that is an actual full QWERTY keyboard. It doesn't have to be pretty. It just needs to work.

I think without Froyo and without being able to store some apps to SD I would've given up on my EVO already. Prior to Froyo I kept getting memory almost full error. I have a lot of apps installed and I'm sure I will be installing more. Memory is very small on Evo compared to the Epic. If it's not the Epic it's going to be something soon that will bring the Evo down.
