I did the disable the blockbuster ups updates and the pvstartsercives thing and man my battery is like 10 Times better. This may have saved me from trading this phone back in.

So, instead of getting 4-5 hours you are getting 40-50 hours? Sounds sort of impossible.

    Good point.

Rooting is not something that everyone does. I think many people that root often don't remember that other people have different comfort levels with rooting or otherwise modding their devices.

So, for the unrooted folks, preventing that service from running is a good option for many.

I downloaded powermax over the weekend and I have seen an improvement on my battery. I use it along with JD ultimate. Today will be the real test now that I'm back to work and constantly on my phone.

Ya I did the whole update blockbuster and turn off updates along with killing the PVMtpServiceStart and my battery is a whole lot better. It hasn't randomly overheated while idle and I'm getting probably 1.5x the juice I normally get.

Kudos to whomever discovered this and shame shame shame on Verizon for including this blockbuster trash and not doing anything about it and double shame on blockbuster for developing malware apps. Blockbuster is already going bankrupt and because of this trash app I hope they go sooner than later.

Is PVMtpServiceStart the one you're talking about?

And I don't have a BB service running, not rooted or anything...

    What does PVMtpServiceStart do?

I'd not explored "Running Services" tab before. There's a handful of things running ("Started by Application") that I don't need running. HuffPost and BBC news, for example, are running... yet I have everything unchecked in those apps settings that can be unchecked (re: notifications, preloading, etc)... so I don't know why they are running.

A colleague showed me the settings area to stop those running services. Of course, I would like to know what I'm stopping but so far no issues except improved battery life. I also go into "manage applications" and tap running applications to stop some of those useless things. It's a shame you can't delete some of that crap Verizon loaded in or at least disable them until you want to enable them (hey - a toggle, brilliant).

When I think of the premium that Blockbuster must have paid to get their app turned into bloatware, I laugh. Most people are just trying to figure out how to get rid of it.

I have to admit, I'm amazed at how well this worked. I did what the TC said and thought it would have a minor effect, but I was wrong. To put things in perspective:

Normally, if I went to bed with my phone at 50% battery, I'd wake up 5 - 6 hours later with the phone buzzing saying I absolutely had to put it on the charger right now.

I killed those apps at around 3 pm yesterday. At that time, I'd say my battery was a shade over 50%, now it's almost 11 am and my battery is probably at about 35 - 40%. That's a huge difference.

Now of course we're talking about idle time here, since I haven't used my phone much at all during that time. So I'm sure it's not going to stop me from burning through batter during heavy usage, but the fact that I don't have to worry about my phone dying a quick death while it's just sitting there is wonderful.
