Help WiFi Hotpsot - cannot connect HTC Desire/IPOD Touch

I have had a similar problem connecting my macbook pro. Not sure of a solution yet, but I think it is to do with the assigning of an IP address. If I go into the network settings on my mac it will tell me it has had to assign itself an ip address which has given limited connectivity. Maybe try going into the hotspot settings on the desire an assigning a fixed address from their.
I will also try this when I get a chance and let you know if it works!

try assinging ip address 192.168.42.122 to the phone in hotspot advanced settings lan settings. Mine now works

Thanks, this is what I tried with no luck. Decided to call orange, to see if they had an additional fee attached to the hotspot function.

Spoke to level 2 tech and was told they had been recieving hundreds of calls since the upgrade to 2.2 with the callers not able to recieve data through wifi hotspot i.e. the problem we are all having.

This issue has been referred to HTC and orange are waiting to find out just whats gone wrong. My guess orange have 'broken' the hotspot wifi feature while customizing the ROM and can not figure out how they have induced the error.

Tech. confirmed that the hotspot feature should be working without any additional fee and they have not intentionally disabled it.

Lets sit tight and hope for a software update soon!

Did you try a reboot after applying the settings?
i must admit mine didn't work at first tried again the next day and all fine.
This ip im using is the one i get when i usb tether

No your right but it works for me! all my devices conect ok and get assigned ip addesses in the 192.168.42.xxx range.

Orange desire 2.2 upgrade via check for system over WiFi
WiFi hotspot found and connected by both network and itouch
But IE8, Chrome, and safari cannot access anything, BBC for eg.

HERE IS A FIX FOR ORANGE TETHERING AND HOTSPOT thanks to roger_dodger and all that helped. I am NOT rooted (if I do root using that new program3 will I get regular software imporovements?)

From your homescreen;

Menu/settings/Wireless&Networks/Mobile networks/Access Point Names

You should see the following three APNs;

Orange Internet
Consumer Broadband
Orange MMS

(that "consumer broadband" one is the one I don't remember seeing before, but I may have been blind. If you don't have it, go ahead and {assuming it's a clean factory-issue Orange Desire obviously} Unrevoke your Desire!)

Select Consumer Broadband

CHANGE the APN from "consumerbroadband" to "orangeinternet"

CHANGE the Username from <Not set> to "Orange"

CHANGE the password from <Not set> to "Multimedia"

Make sure you use the capital first letters exactly as I've typed them there. Oh, and don't type the " marks. I'm sure if you're smart enough to use XDA-Dev you already know that, but no harm in stating it for the n00blets.

Authentication type should be set to CHAP. Make sure, I think it was anyway but just check.

Press your Menu button, tap "Save"

And that's it.

Switch on your "Wifi Hotspot" in your usual way, search and connect from your lappie, surf the bejesus out of those pesky Orange ratbags. Meanwhile your phone keeps its own connection side by side your tethered hotspot - that's what the "Orange Internet" settings alter, so don't mess with those.

Don't forget to use one of the WPA security methods of course, otherwise some cheeky knob-jockey will definitely enjoy your Orange account's data capacity right up to the hair.

Mine is sim free using 3 so it's not just an Orange problem I seem to have found a solution that works for me though, I've changed the Wi-Fi channel from automatic to channel #1, might be worth a try

I'm using an HTC desire with Android 2.2 on a Vodafone business plan. To complicate matters, I am accessing the Vodafone network through a Suresignal femtocell.

Pleased to say that Mike53's advice of changing the WiFi channel worked like a dream. Thanks!

FYI, HTC came back to me to confirm it was a known problem with the update and that they're working on a further update to resolve it. The @OrangeHelpers team (on Twitter) didn't even know about it though, so god knows how long it'll take HTC to be bothered to get round to it if Orange aren't breathing down their necks...

Thanks for this, however it did not work on my Orange HTC. I then tried changing the username to 'user' and the password to 'pass' and it worked. So if anyone else cant get it working then try the alternate login details:
User name: user
Password: pass
