[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

i think that from the start of building the phone that huawei didnt plan to update the phone to 2.2 or higher its because of us wanting the 2.2 update so they are trying upgrade the phone but they didnt really plan for the phone to be updated or so early after being released in November.. so thats what i think they didnt really plan to update the ascend

Well obviously they had been planning on updating it because there is an Ascend out with 2.2 on it. And that didn't happen over night. Right now the problem is with the updating process. And that may very well be Metro trying to get people to buy the Tap Out version.
The phone hasn't even been out six months yet. More expensive phones have taken longer to update. At least it came out with 2.1. The Zio came out with 1.6.
WE PAID $100 FOR OUR PHONES! And got a great phone for the money. QUIT WHINING! If you don't like it go spend 2 to 4 times as much for the phone you want.

Dont think he is whining about the phone itself, but Metros lack of staying current with the android os. Also have to keep in mind the ascend n optomus were Metros first android phones, dunno about cricket.

Like I've stated b4 I dont really care about Metro updating to 2.2 or not except that it may help dev's fix the few issues in cm6 n cm7. :D

The whining remark was just a general remark not directed toward him.
Huawei obviously was planning on 2.2 because it's out. They did their job.
This is one of Metro's first android phones and this is the first MAJOR update so you can expect some problems and delays. It was supposed to be out with the Tap Out release, but things happen.
It IS coming, and it should be soon.

listen ok I could caree less about the stupid update ok im rooted and running icarus right now i all good with my 2.1 for now until CM7 is fix ok. i dont think they really planned on the update being demanded so much by people so they are forcing the 2.2 update and its not happening. the phone is not built for 2.2

I have a few questions.

1. When downloading a payed app, is there tax or is there only what the app says?

2. Titanium backup says you can only buy it with a card that supports worldwide purchases. What does that mean?

3. clockwork recovery mod has loads of bad reviews on the market saying it doesn't work or that it keeps asking for payment when it's already payed. How can I be sure it'll work. I'm assuming it didn't work for those people because they didn't have the step by step installation faq offered here.

Aside from that, how is everyone? I haven't been on in a while.

yeah glad to hear my info helped. i been using it. I would have used those custom roms and gone to 2.2 but that whole thing about having no mms kept me weary of that. i been pretty happy with the phone. link2sd, i never had any problems. I always checked the link dalvick files. I never tried it without checking that. but my phone was getting full at about 8 apps before i used it, now i have 206. and its a 2gb sd card. my phone is rooted, so i think it has to be rooted for link2sd to work. so it does run a lot better and i havent filled up my room yet. the other app i love now is setCPU, it increases the speed of the phone since carriers underclock the devices.just in case back up everything anyway. other people who have this phone have problems with it freezing up and I kind of did at first but there is a big difference now. Its pretty fast now.

I think everyone here that has used clockworkmod recovery can attest to it def works lol.

I just have the free version and I dont get any spam, notices etc to pay for the premium version.

The bad reviews are prolly from iggits that dont have a fin clue wtf they're doing to start with n try using it w/o having root.

for one, you dont build a phone for the OS, just the opposite you build a OS for the phone/hardware.

2.2 n 2.3 work just fine on the ascend, tho yes not all features will work as the phones 2.2 n 2.3 were aimed at are a much higher caliber than the ascend.

There's no forcing, its on the TapOut, Metro just gonna make some $$$ of it b4 they release plain n simple, thats just good business lol

OMG you guys!! It must be real! Its really really real!! OMG OMG! His name is NoBrain so he has to be from Metro, right? Lol

this might be old news for a lot of you, but the huawei ascend 2 is coming in summer (Sleeker Huawei Ascend 2 coming to Cricket | CTIA 2011 - CNET Reviews) and it is launching with froyo (2.2), not gingerbread (2.3), although the reviewer writes that he hopes for huawei to change their mind and go gingerbread. This phone is slated for a summer released so it could be released within 2-4 months. a couple questions arise here..

will huawei keep the ascend 1 at os 2.1 to aid sales for the ascend 2? or will the ascend be updated before the release of the newer phone (I hope yes).

why does huawei tend to release phones on less-than-contemporary operating systems anyway?

they make less $$$ than the big carriers and their target market is brokeass phuqers like us lol

I dont see how the ascend with 2.2 on would hurt sales of the ascend 2 with 2.2 on it. If the ascend 2 has better hardware and supports flash n other features the reg ascend cant then that would be a selling point on its own. Now why they still insist on staying behind the curve by not using 2.3 beats me.

You said it before, it's about the money. I'm sure it cost them less to release with 2.1 than with 2.2, and they make money on the hardware, not the software.
thing is tho I dont think google charges them for android since they make $$ off the market etc and gets all their other apps used. Its based on linux, so technically google cant charge for the OS itself, just support of it.
