Afraid of updating to 2.1 - lost vibrate last time

After getting my U20a, I updated it to 2.1 (2.0.2.A.0.504) using PC Companion. Everything went fine, except that vibration broke (even in secret menu / Service Test). I found some people with similar problems (here, here and here).

Is it really this common for this phone to simply "lose" vibration? I got a replacement yesterday (it still has 1.6), and I'm afraid of updating! What should I do?

Well, I crossed my fingers and updated. So far, it's been working fine.
