Help Help configuring my college email account

I am attempting to set up my college email account, name@email.unc.edu, to the email app originally included on my Droid. You know, the app that says "email." Unfortunately, I have had no luck. I have tried every setting but without success. Does anyone have any tips/instructions for me?

Thank you for any time you put forth to help me.

Name@email.unc.edu is not my real email account. @email.unc.edu is, hopefully, all I need to share..? Otherwise, please let me know.

I'm not 100% about this, but you probably need to talk to your school's help desk. They probably require a VPN in order to do that. Usually this is because they are using exchange, but there is really no way of knowing this until you talk to the IS department.

I'm also using the UNC email system, but I have been unable to setup my account. When I was using a 3rd party application (K-9), I had no problems using my imap account. I just did a factory reset on my phone, and I decided to go back to using the stock email app because I wasn't too thrilled with K-9.

I did some searching, and they also have a link for Android users.

However, it is for version 1.6. The steps seem to be the same for Froyo, but I still cannot send out emails. I can receive emails on the phone, but I cannot send them out using the outgoing server. I can't really call the school tech support because I am no longer a student. I was somehow able to slip through the cracks and have had my school email for over 5 years after graduation.

Any help would be appreciated. If I can't figure it out, does anyone have any other email app suggestions other than K-9?
