I noticed that about my Eris since day 1. Signal depends on how you hold it. Fortunately, I'm usually in a pretty good signal area.

You can go into the settings and watch the dBm level go up and down in relation to how you hold it.

haha... I saw that. How BOGUS is that example!! It's a known issue with the HTC software that it doesn't show the right signal bars while you have PERFECT reception. They probably sat there with a camera and waited for the phone to show 4 bars, and then go to 0...

But during this, calls do NOT drop

Let me look for my post where I monitored this for 20 minutes...

Drop a call. No. Kill a 3g download, yes. It probably depends on how strong the signal is where you're using the phone. Typically, VZW has better coverage than AT&T.

Again, you can go into the settings and watch the dBm fluctuate based where your hands are on the phone.

Well, I must be a liar then because I can sit right here and MAKE my phone add 10 dBM (get more negative) by cupping my hands around the top & bottom of my phone.

Well, a lot of times, mine is at 0 bars, even though the signal is showing -68 dBm. Every phone is calibrated differently in relation to the bars.

I'm just saying that I can in fact make my actual signal drop by placing my hands on certain areas of the phone.

Its well known by Eris users that the visual bar meter is not always very accurate. You literally must have a PERFECT signal to get 4 bars. You can also have zero bars and still have perfectly functional 3G.

Of course holding the phone will slightly affect the signal, due to it naturally have to go through an object (your hand). And it can also fluctuate, especially indoors, depending on how thick the walls are, if your by a window, and such. However, never once have I seen an Eris completely lose signal or drastically lose signal because of the way you hold it.

Besides, even if the Eris had this problem, why is he justifying it by comparing their top-of-the-line device to a device that was not even top-of-the-line on RELEASE?

Steve is getting pretty good at BS.

This is the best argument against Jobs. The Eris and iPhone aren't in the same class and shouldn't be compared.

The problem that Steve Jobs fails to say is that they made the mistake of positioning the antenna in a spot that is often held whenever using the phone.

By putting the antenna there, it's almost impossible not to touch it.

Although we might experience a slight drop if we held it there, it's in a position that's a lot less likely to be touched, therefore making it a superior location. This is what Jobs fails to admit is the flaw with his antenna design.

He is an idiot just trying to dodge the bullet. I have not experienced anything like this, and I can't even get my bars to change no matter how I hold the phone. Even at 0 bars, I can still make and receive phone calls with no problem.
