My touch slide or Samsung Vibrant?

I had the mytouch slide also...Great phone..Just got the Vibrant...AMAZING phone...different than MyTouch Slide...No keyboard...The swype function is sick...love that...dont miss keyboard...The screen is so amazing...I like it...try it ...its worth it...both good phones...the vibrant is just more fancier...The mytouch slide is more for the old sidekick junkies or g1 even...the vibrant is more of a step up not meaning better just different...

I have both phones and I still go back and forth between them. I love them both, but for different reasons. The Slide is definitely the faster device, however on paper the Vibrant should be faster. Hopefully in time the Vibrant bugs will get worked out and it should be the faster of the two devices. The screen on the Vibrant is clearly the show stopper and I love live wallpaper. The Slide's built in web browser is far superior as it has Flash support which is really awesome. But if you dont visit a lot of Flash websites once again the Vibrant's screen is awesome! Browsing the web on the vibrant is great because of the size difference. I use GPS a lot so the poor GPS performance on the Vibrant has had me cursing a few times while navigating. If you live and travel in a mostly flat area with fews trees, terrain or tall buildings the Vibrant will be fine with navigation, but otherwise it can be a bit wonky. I actually like the solid heavy feel of the Slide and it fits in my hand a little better but I don't use the slide out keyboard at all so for me it is a waste of size and weight. I actually put a gel skin cover on my vibrant to make it bulkier and it feels much better now in my hand.

So, in conclusion they are both really awesome devices and they both have their pluses and minuses. It really boils down to what you need and want most. Big beautiful screen with lots of future potential if Samsung properly supports it (Vibrant). Or smaller, solid performer right out of the box (myTouch Slide).

Just saw your other post.

The camera on the Vibrant is definitely way better than the Slide, however the Vibrant does not have a flash. I rarely use the flash on my Slide so this is not big deal. The vibrant also has a night shooting mode that does a pretty good job. The 720P HD video recording on the Vibrant is awesome. So I say the Vibrant overall has the better camera.

The internet is faster on the Slide as is just about everything else. So if speed is a big concern the Slide is the better choice. Also if you like to view Flash sites the Slide's browser with HTC flash player can handle most Flash enabled websites. However, the Vibrants bigger screen makes web browsing a lot easier and natural. So I would say internet speed and overall usage probably goes to the slide, but if you don't visit many Flash websites I would say it is a draw.

I had the slide a couple of weeks before exchanging it for the Vibrant. My thoughts are:

+ Slide
Better browser.
Genius button is great
Better dictation (dragon dictation) rarely mistook what I said
Easier to put things on like individual ringtones or adding MP3s to the phone
It just WORKS easy, fast, and well
Flash for camera
Cut and paste function works WAY better than Vibrant
Trackpad

-Slide

Heavy
Bulky
Smaller screen
Less resolution screen
Mine spazzed out and had to be returned so I wondered about the quality of other slides.

+ Vibrant
Better resolution screen
Bigger screen
Swype works better on the Vibrant than the Mytouch
Thinner
Lighter
They actually have cases for these- couldn't get one for mytouch
More storage (16 gigs, w/2 being just for apps)

As for the camera, the pics I took INDOORS with the slide turned out better generally b/c of the flash, I assume. I'd say the pics I took outside turned out better with the Vibrant. So it's a toss up.

They are both great phones. I miss the functionality of the mytouch, but I LOVE the screen on the vibrant. The heaviness of the mytouch really annoyed me quite a bit. Maybe I would've gotten used to it over time. I do question from time to time if I made the right decision trading b/c I do a lot of voice commands with my phone and the slide was much better with that. I'd say if you do a lot of voice commands keep the slide.

The Vibrant and MyTouch Slide are both excellent phones, I've tried each for a week and decided to stick with the SLIDE.

The Vibrant is a better multimedia device, so if your focus is watching videos, TV, gaming and awesome surround sound options for music, then go with the Vibrant. The Vibrant is also very eye catching and super cool to look at when you whip it out of your pocket. The sensor rotates on all sides for orientation, that may make a difference with gaming.

The MyTouch Side has a more durable feel and may take more of a bruising, if you are hard on phones. I also felt the in call volume to be better on the Slide than the Vibrant, especially in public spaces like a coffee shop, train station or soccer game. If you use a bluetooth religiously, then the in call quality on the Vibrant is greatly improved. The music is very nice on the MyTouch, but it was AWESOME on the Vibrant. Then there is the physical keyboard on the MyTouch, if you can't get into the SWYPE.

As for speed, the processor is faster on the Vibrant, but I can't tell a significant speed difference for downloading mail, accessing the web or downloading music. I think because HTC has been doing Android longer, they are more effecient in their design and can do more with less.

I also prefer some tactile sense on the MyTouch Slide. I can make a call using the GENIUS button withouth looking at the phone. This is a help when driving. ie.... Upper left corner press down with index, swipe down with thumb, press right corner button with thumb, wait for beep and speak your command. I can't do that with an all touch screen without looking.

Good luck with your final decision and please let us know which one you selected.

So from reading this, your only reason for sticking with the Slide is the keyboard?

The genius button is a glorified marketing scheme for the simple Google voice search function already available on Android phones (long press the search button). Not to mention that in FroYo, it will be even more advanced. But apparently the "genius button" scheme has worked since people are buying into it.

But to each his own. I hope you enjoy your phone!

The other poster was saying he can use the genius button easily without looking at the phone b/c it is a real button- it provides tactile feedback. The vibrant does not have actual tactile buttons. I actually do miss that about the Slide. I prefer those.

I had the Slide for a few weeks, but switched to the Vibrant because it has a larger storage capacity, 48gb instead of 32gb.
I liked the Slide's keyboard a lot, and it had a few cool Slide specific apps. Now I have the Vibrant and kinda miss the Slide but hope I'll adjust to it in time. The Vibrant, has a big screen, but I don't care, I'm not going to be watching movies on it. It's battery life is horrible, less than a day for me. And I miss actual buttons, the whole Vibrant is touch, except for the side volume button and standby. The Slide also has a flash, while the Vibrant doesn't. Not that important but people who use the camera a lot might like it.
The Vibrant should get Froyo in September, but from the research I did the My Touch probably won't get it.

Just this last saturday I sold my mytouch slide to get the vibrant.....although I haven't had the vibrant very long here is one thing I miss about the slide, The genius button.... Used it every day its seems like even saved mine and friends lives a couple nights when we were in unfamiliar cities and were in need of beer with only 5 mins till 2am (the time they stop selling beer in so cal lol).... But anyways I say do it!!!!!!....i love the the vibrant!!!! Although it does not have flash which is the only flaw I have discovered so far.... It is so much more sleek and thin just like the iphone.... I do not miss the keyboard because the screen is so big and I've become pro at swype.... Also I have not had any problems with web browsing..... They are both awesome phones but I don't regret selling the slide for the vibrant... I think I made an excellent decision!!!....

Slide is a bit older now and its more of a mid-high range phone whereas the vibrant is a top-tier phone. The Vibrant does have some bugs admittedly but if you do some of your own tweaks to it you will find it is much faster phone. If multimedia is important to you then the Vibrant is a great choice. However if multimedia is not all that important to you and perhaps you would prefer a physical keyboard to the touch keyboard (with swype) then maybe this isn't the phone for you. Of course I'm sure you can see the immediate positives, thinner phone with a larger screen. Comes down to if you will miss your keyboard or not really.

*edit: just realized this post is old :/ NOT MY FAULT!

Both are fantastic phones.

The slide uses a six hundred megahertz processor but feels very snappy on its feet. Due to the 3.4 inch screen the slide is able to maintain its own prowess when it comes to graphics performance. The screen is rather small in my opinion which makes using the touch keyboard more error prone especially if your fingers are big. The physical keyboard is great to have but i honestly type faster on vibrant four inch screen with less mistakes.

The gps on slide is outstanding, simply outstanding, performs better than the gps in a Mercedes Benz.

At this point the vibrant gps is still problematic however Samsung has promised an optimization...who knows if we will truely get it or not.

The vibrant super amoled four inch is the perfect balance between form and function. The vibrant screen produces amazing blacks with its high contrast ratio, however whites are more cool toned instead of rich white tones. Videos on the vibrant are amazing but text is very pixelated.

Call quality is better on the slide only because i feel the volume doesn't get loud enough on the vibrant....maybe im deaf...but i found a work around in the secret codes thread.

Video recording is better on the vibrant. Pictures taken during the day are excellent on the vibrant but slide takes better pictures in really dark environments.

Neither phone has flash 10.1 but I've been able to watch flash videos on both phones with zero problems.

The vibrants power vr sgx540 is simply phenomenal. Makes the graphics experience a thrill.

The vibrant has more bugs right now but nothing that an ota mr won't fix.

Battery life is slightly better on the slide.

Vibrant has more potential to grow with your needs and demands thanks to its hummingbird processor and power vr sgx540.

Also vibrant has sixteen gb built in memory
