Root For me, Xtr 3.0.3 is....

EXTREMELY buggy with the messenger and the dialer. I used the stock msg and then chomp. Both had the same problems. Anyone else having these issues?

The usually runs very snappy and fluid, but when I make a call or do anything with a text, the phone just stops and frequently will FC.
Has anyone else had this issue in 3.0.3? You reckon v4 is much better?

EE was a much more consistent ROM for me, but I prefer the overall look and feel of Xtr, so I hope v4 is a little better.

Sorry Frisco. :(

PS. My experiences have been identical with and w/out SetCPU.

I have never had any issue like that. Truly, XTR has been the most rock-solid, stable ROM that I have run, including stock 1.5 and 2.1 (though I haven't used the latest stock, I suppose), for every traditional phone function - calling, receiving calls, sending and receiving texts, etc. And, really, everything else (except the frustrating force close on first open with the browser after the phone has been running a while, which also used to happen with stock 2.1).

the dialer blows! if i make a mistake and hit the backspace arrow it automatically dials the 3. i took this rom off and went back to stock 2.1. for some reason that's been the best for me so far,

I've never seen or heard of those issues with any xtrROM.

Or those of the OP.

I'm wondering about other factors. ;)

- overclocked? what settings? don't overclock xtrROMs

- JIT? get rid of it

- good zip download? are you willing to grab another zip?

- good flash? are you willing to re-flash?

I did some more reading up on things and...

-Not gonna dive into v. 4 just yet.
-I tinkered around with my SetCPU profiles. I basically simplified things as well as bump up the "sleep" setting tad. Much better now.
-Rick, do you have large thumbs? I can (seriously) palm bowling balls. I occasionally hit other numbers....just a thought.
-I think my zip was fine. I got the same file as most people At least I think.
-Good flash? I'll give it another shot. How would one improve on their flashing?

Thanks everyone for their input and help!

i tried to get just my finger tip on that back space button with no luck.

i didnt over clock at all.

i still dont know what JIT is. i think i got a good zip. everything else worked fine, but i found myself trying to get it as close as my OTA 2.1. i cleared the cache on the dialer and i have no more lag. i think im going to wait a little while longer before i flash more roms.

It was working OK, but the journey I've been through (leaks, hacks, roots, and ROMs) has clouded my memory a bit. I don't understand why there's an ocasional "bum phone." Same hardware, same software. To me (or my engineer and programming buddies) it doesn't make much sense. But I won't give up!

With this ROM things sometimes work great, sometimes it's like swimming through a big pool of molasses. But it's only with the dialer and messaging. All of the other bells and whistles are flawless. Weird.

Is there anything unusual I need to know about re-flashing? I think I'm ging to give that a try.

Cheers

Hearing about dialer problems in the Eris, no matter the OS (1.5 or 2.1 or 2.2) or ROM, makes me wonder about the device itself that the user has.

Thinking back to when you first got the device, how was the dialer working for you then?
with 1.5 i had BAD lag til i turned the dialer sound off. then i had a little lag if i dialed too fast.

with 2.1 it virtually went away. a couple of weeks ago it came back, but not when i pressed the buttons. it would take about 30 seconds after i hit call for the phone to actually try to connect the call.

i never had a problem with misdialing numbers the way i did with this rom. its strange.

I'm hoping that my suggestion, that the issues you're having may have more to do with your hardware than with the ROMs you're testing, is being taken as intended rather than some other way: If I had a device that was exhibiting bad behaviors stock, then from ROM to ROM, I'd probably find that notion quite prominent among other reasons as to why, rather than the ROMs themselves.

Then, given that I'm keeping the Eris, I would begin a search for a ROM that could be configured away from the problem, or perhaps with the capability of utilizing an app or two that would improve the situation.
