oh ok. There are SOOOOO many different root threads and different roms, that honestly I don't know how to root it. Half of the threads that tell me how to root make me click links that send me to threads thats are several months old.
I'm just afraid to try one of them now and end up bricking my phone.
There are two fairly recent (and well-tested) methods that you can try, right in the All things root forums here:

Saying that, there are things that you should know about rooting:
- technically, you are violating the terms of the warranty, and Verizon and HTC can
technically refuse warranty service. That said, I have heard of nobody who was charged full price for a replacement when the phone was determined to have been rooted. You should know this before you root
- Saying that, it is quite possible and not all that difficult to quickly unroot the phone and return it to stock Eros 2.1, at a point where HTC and Verizon would not be able to determine that the phone was rooted
- technically I suppose it is possible to brick your phone using those methods, I have heard of nobody who has complained that this happened.
- it is quite possible to get root user access keeping your ROM and just use it to delete those apps that you do not like. You can always choose later on to "graduate" to using a custom ROM (though, of course, you can always choose to root straight to a ROM that catches your interest.)
