Happy with the Update/Phone?

There are so many threads with people having some fairly major problems with the Eris, both before and after the update. This is a great site to discuss and solve problems with the phone ... but I am interested to see how many people are not having major problems with the phone.

I never had a major problem with the battery, and now it seems to last a little longer than before the update. My biggest complaint was with the MMS, the Eris would not re-size a photo in the native app ... this was fixed with the update.

Overall I like the phone a lot and do not have any complaints at this point. Anyone else feel the same way?

The only thing useful that I noticed from the update is that my battery is lasting longer. I had my full day from 8:15 to 1:30 AM yesterday and my phone was still at 51%. Guess thats the lack of switching in and out of 3g. Otherwise I'm still waiting for the 2.1 release and/or the Passion. I have a feeling that I will buy the damn thing outright.

My battery is just about the same as before. Haven't noticed any major improvements. I don't use the stock text apps so the fixes don't apply to me. One big disappointment, though, is that Google Voice doesn't work for outgoing calls right now, but that's more of a conflict between HTC and Google. Hopefully that'll get fixed soon. Other than that, very happy with the Eris!

No problems before or after.
My wife however had a minor issue.
She would turn her phone off at night and when she rebooted it in the morning it would send blank text messages. I am not sure if that has stopped after the update. She now leaves her phone on at night. I will have her test it.

I'm back to have the "100% awake time" problem, even after all the updates, resets, and handcent sms solutions. The vibration function is useless. The phone locks up randomly. YouTube isn't working right. And on and on and on...

I'm sending it back. I'm sad that I have to do this, I've been really excited about this phone--my first smart phone.

So now my question is, is there another phone I should try, or should I go back to my dumb, but reliable, LG Dare until a new droid comes out for Verizon? Any suggestions appreciated.

First thing I'd suggest is getting a replacement phone from Verizon to see if it fixes your problems. That won't change the strength of the vibration, so if that's a deal killer for you then you need a different phone. However there are many thousands of phones out there that don't have the problem yours does. To me that would indicate
1) setting(s) not set right on your phone
2) some app that you've downloaded that's causing a problem
3) a defective phone.

If you'd like to like this phone :) you might try a factory reset, tweak the settings as suggested in the battery sticky, then don't download any new apps for a couple of days - just use the stock apps.
If your phone starts working correctly then that would tend to point towards a problem app that's been downloaded. Starting bring in your favorite apps slowly (say, one per day) to see which of them causes the phone to misbehave. At that point you've found your culprit. Personally I don't ever Youtube, so I couldn't say whether or not my phone works correctly with their vids (though I've seen other folks report the same problem since the update). Aside from that possible exception my post-update phone isn't showing any of the problems that you relate. To ME that indicates the the hardware design is basically sound, but there is something wrong with your specific phone.

I'm glad they're being quick about updates, but it seems like they're causing just as many new issues with the updates as they are fixing! The txt msg char counter, people's phones freezing on the lock screen, screwing up Google Voice, YouTube videos not playing, etc. That's just lazy testing prior to pushing the update. That text msg counter was the dumbest freakin implementation of a good idea I've ever seen. WTF were they thinking in their placement of it?

Granted, I haven't had any major issues with the phone myself since I got it, nor any issues with the update, but other people definitely have.

This is in no way meant to be offensive, but the people who seem to complain the most about the phone are the ones who probably wouldn't be classified as tech savvy.

Wow, that kind of sounds a little stupid to me...lol!
So if we have issues on our phone (such as youtube app no longer working, phone freezing up all the time) that means we aren't tech savvy...yes...that all makes sense now!!

YouTube is still working for me, but since the update I haven't been able to play high quality videos unless I'm connected to wifi. I've been working in IT for years and am very tech-savvy, but this has nothing to do with that. It's a problem in the updated software. Not a problem on my end.

If there's a bug in Windows, it's Microsoft's problem to fix, not mine. I don't have the Windows source code, I'm not a programmer, I simply have to make due and work around it the best I can until a fix is released.

Let me elaborate. Those who quickly give up and just return the phone because this is their first smart phone crowd. That is who I am referring to. I never mentioned YouTube. For instance, I would not get this phone for my sister because she would end up getting frustrated not realizing that most smart phones have these issues and with most updates in any software other unintended consequences normally happen. The non tech savvy folks who just want their phone or anything that they own to work as advertised. The more complex a system gets the more bugs that there are.

Okay, point taken...I've just been very aggravated with all the issues cropping up on my phone (that I'm hoping to keep btw) and then hearing that it's mostly non tech savvy (aka stupid) people who are complaining made me mad!! :)

Going to try and swap phone and see if that does anything - not very hopeful just yet.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm no electrical engineer, but I'm tech savvy enough to know that when my phone is sitting on the table it shouldn't restart itself just for the hell of it. Maybe Eris is now self-aware. Next thing you know, it will be looking for John Conner.

I think I may have fixed to no sleep issue (again), turned off "always on mobile". See if that helps. I'm still going to call verizon to see if they can send me a new unit.

And this isn't "quickly giving up". I've had it for 30+ days (verizon was kind enough [sarcasm] to extend my 30 day guarantee for a couple days).

eris now compresses 5mp photos for mms. wooohooo.

Will that work in email as well? I don't pay extra for texting, I just use email but the photo thing was really annoying. I was taking pictures with the lowest resolution so I could email them right away. If it will compress for email that would be fantastic.
Anyone know off hand? Can't check myself I'm in airplane mode at work, no signal in the building.

By the way, had a minor problem locking onto 3g at home (fringe area) the update really seemed to help that a lot and has improved my battery a little. Other than that I am still as happy with the phone as ever. The worst part about this is that it makes my wifes Omnia 1, which I got her in March, look awful. This is my first smartphone, that was hers. We could barely get it set up to reliably send and receive emails with a windows account.

They didn't fix the XT9 bug. Still unavailable much of the time. My five year old flip phone from Sony was able to offer T9 all tIe time, so I doubt the phone is incapable of that.

YouTube videos still play out of sync with the audio, and it's especially bad in the browser. I haven't had any new problems since the update, except the same one everyone else seems to have with the YouTube app refusing to play certain videos, even some it used to.

Even so, I can't imagine switching to a different phone.
