Is there a working call recording app?

I'm not trying to start a big mess here. I've searched around and have found no absolute program that works.

  • I'm not starting this to debate the legalities of it. Frankly, I don't care. I'll take full responsibility for using such an app.
  • I know Google Voice will record, but with a spoken warning. And besides, I don't always use GV for calls.
  • I don't want to have to use the speaker phone to accomplish this.
  • I want both sides to be recorded.

Like I said, I've searched online and in these forums. I've tried a few programs and none have worked.

I have a rooted (currently running Virtuous) Inc and am simply looking for a program that I can start up to record a conversation; either at the beginning of the call, in the middle of the call, whatever.

Again, I don't want to start up a legal conversation. Just the brass tacks. What programs, if any, actually do this?

Thanks in advance!

Works really well. You can change file type to save.

On a side note, I spoke with my sister (attorney) on the legalities of using an app like this. It depends on your state but here in Florida as long as 1 person knows its legal.

I've tried it and, yes it works, but you can barely hear the person on the other end.

It seems that there has got to be a way to do this. Heck, my old dumb LG flip phone could do it no problem!

Because what you are hearing is the sound from the speaker having to travel outside (or through) the phone down to the microphone. HTC, along with many others, have stopped providing the drivers for this function for legal reasons.

Writing a driver absent in snapdragon devices would only be possible if a) Qualcomm publishes its specs related to Modem CPU, or b) HTC reveals the details of the protocol used for communication between the two processors (Application CPU and Modem CPU).

From HTC:
"We can not provide you with additional tools that were forbidden by higher authorities."

Well that sucks.

True, however it was assumed he meant the Incredible since he posted in the Incredible forum and he has the Incredible listed as his device. Then he went on to further state:

I know... But the problem is that it's the phone's firmware controlling whether it's doable, so if you got an Inc, the answer is no, no matter which app you use.

I've explained it in my thread over there. You may also check out the Android code issue 2117 for more information.

If you take spakerphone+mic recording acceptable, then there are many solutions out there.

Yeah, thanks for the reply. It sucks. I've tried the speakerphone recorders, but although they work, the volume is not equal and if I'm somewhere public, I don't want to be on speakerphone.

I know MIUI has it built in and it works just fine... I can hear both sides well from my experience

Was this working on a Droid Incredible? I have also tried MIUI and don't care for it (to iphoneish for me) and couldn't get the recording to work. I have been looking for this as well, and from what I can find anywhere is although MIUI does have call recording built in (and it works fine on other phones), the recording feature doesn't work on an Inc. However, if you know that this does work on an Inc, where did you get this information from so I may change my views?

Personal experience... I recorded just over 2 minutes of a conversation with a friend and everything sounded just fine during playback. I think my Incredible was on MIUI 1.1.7.1 at the time, and I would guess the newest works just as well. I really recommend trying it out, so much customization and features you won't find anywhere else. Even has an option to get rid of those iPhone styled menus for the default android ones

Well, a big Thanks is in order for that. It does seem to record both sides (however the other person is still quieter, though not as quiet as any other app). Hopefully now someone could rip it out of there and make a stand alone app. Probably not though because you need to update your radio and baseband as well.

Using google voice to record calls works well. It can only be done when you make outbound calls though.
Yes, GV records outbound calls, however there is a voice-over heard while recording "This call is being recorded"

Just an FYI (using DInc 2.2)

I just downloaded a cracked version of (totall recall call recorder version 1.5.7)
seems to be working fine , recording both conversation from the earpeace and speaker. will soon test with bluetooth.

I dont think I can put the website here, just PM me

Update:unfortunately it does not record when using bluetooth.

Any updates on this topic? I am using CM7 and have had partial success with 2-Way Call Recorder from the market, which has 3 modes of recording for rooted devices. Seems to work the same on all modes; the other party is a lot quieter, as it seems to be recording from the mic only.
Can anyone confirm whether it works better with the MIUI rom, or is this simply a dead issue with the HTC restrictions.
Is there any Verizon android phone that supports this feature? None of the motorola droids do. I've heard rumors that the HTC Eris supported 2-way recording, but nobody has been able to get it working with the snapdragon cpu.
As a side note, google voice works great for this feature, but only for incoming calls, not outgoing. I want to use this mainly for outgoing calls, for documenting my calls to customer service reps.

I've finally got it working --- CALL RECORDING - 2 WAY on HTC Evo 4G CRYSTAL CLEAR!

This is an old thread but FYI, you can have the HTC EVO 4G recording both sides, full clarity and in the background if you so choose. I worked on this for months and finally was able to get all the components together to install.. I don't know how much interest there is but if there is enough interest here I'll write a tutorial and provide the links to the files you'l need. It's not a difficult process but will require rooting, a rom update, a kernel replacment and the actual call recording software. So let me know if this is something with a high level of interest here and I'll get an instruction / tutorial written up. It will take me a little time to gather and verify the links, write the instructions, etc., but i'll be happy to if the interest is here.

This may work on some other Android roms running any of the new ICS android 4.0 roms but was not tested on alternatives.
