Does Anyone Else Hate Their Epic?

I've had an Epic since beginning of September of last year. At first I loved this phone. Over the last 10 months I've become enraged that I even even considered buying this piece of garbage cooked up in Samsung Hell.

I'm on my second Epic because the first one locked up completely and the screen began to flicker wildly.

I've only had this one for a few months and it's having major issues.

The latest one is that an app called android.iqd is running at 100% of my CPU and killing the battery and the phone. I've looked everywhere and I have yet to find a solution for an unrooted Epic. Does anyone know what to do about this?

I don't want to root this phone. I don't think that spending the time to learn to become a developer to fix this garbage phone is worth it.

There is a bright light coming at the end of this dank and dark Epic Tunnel of Hell. On 9/1/2011 I can and WILL upgrade trading this lemon in at long last. I will never buy a Samsung ever again. I've only owned 2 models of their phones and both turned out to be the worst phones ever.

I'm sorry to hear your frustrations with the phone, and I hope your next device works well for you. I tend to disagree because I love my Epic, but I can understand that we all have different experiences.

If you do want to reconsider possibly rooting your phone and installing a custom ROM, there's many out there and if you watch qbking77's youtube how to videos and follow them step by step, it might solve some of your problems. I am definitely not a developer and have basic troubleshooting skills myself, but I was able to do it successfully by following his videos.

Basically what I'm suggesting is on 9/1 (or earlier if you reconsider) try the rooting and custom rom install process. If that doesn't solve your problems then head on down to where ever you buy your phones from and upgrade to a new device. If it does solve your problems then you can think it over and possibly save yourself some money (assuming it fixes your problems and does what you need/want it to do).

Considering the official gingerbread release is right around the corner, and the samsung devs have been putting in a lot of effort to make the phone right, in a week or so you shouldn't have a reason or need to root your phone. You'd definitely in the minority (though not alone) in hating the phone. It has had it's share of issues as much as its had its upside. The Droid 3 is first and only phone to be competition, and the only other possibility will be the rumored LG G2x slider that is coming to Sprint.

I accomplish quite a bit on my phone that used to have me open up the laptop. The large screen and the 5 row keyboard with cursor keys has definitely been a reason for it. I even forgo breaking out the Transformer when I need to do intensive stuff quickly.

So while you're stuck till September, I have a feeling gingerbread might change your tune a bit when it hits.

I had that exact same problem right after i got mine, actually it was my second one(first one died on the first dat i had it!) About 2 weeks after launch. Like you i couldnt find anything on the forums or google search. I finally called up samsung talked to a tech, they overnighted me a new phone and sent mine to them, kinda odd i thought. That is something that totally impares your phone because of the battery drain is insane but what it is i still dont know as samsung wouldn't tell me. I would suggest going to sprint with it or even calling up samsung, your issue is not a "normal" problem and it needs to get changed out. Good luck, i truly know what you are going through.

I totally feel your pain, I went through 3 Epics in 5 months before I finally paid *gasp* retail price for an Evo because I wanted to get rid of the phone so bad. You will be so happy with the Evo if that's what you go with!!!

I'm in the process of moving the company over to T-mobile, and the lack of a comparable slider is one of the sticking points. The Slide 4g doesn't do a thing for me. Keyboard stinks, screen is small and the optical pad is a poor excuse for ditching cursor keys on the keyboard. Would love to see a 4" version of the HTC Arrive with Android on it. Don't know why HTC is in love with that rehashed design. Just don't get it.

And Samsung actually has a decent design with the Sidekick 4g including a 5 row keyboard. They could easily have fit a 4" screen on it too. There's something to that tilting screen design that just seems to work. It allows more space on the keyboard section to fit a proper keyboard. Wish they'd do more phones with that design.

I'm finding that I don't need the physical keyboard. So the slider is a non factor for me. The only time I use the physical keyboard is when the Epic makes entering text with swype in text fields on my Dolphin Browser unbearable. This is all too often.

My issue with this phone is that it should work straight out of the box without my having to work hard to fix any issues. The Epic failed at that since I got it. They have yet to fix so many issues that most of us are having even after several updates. I have no confidence that Gingerbread will fix anything. In fact I expect there to be major bugs like there have been with every update on the Epic. They just can't seem to get this phone right. I Shouldn't have to keep exchanging phones to get a "good" one. I'm done with this phone.

I don't really care for the Evo and I played with the Evo 3D yesterday and it made me dizzy and sick to my stomach in 3D mode.

I'm seriously considering the Motorola Photon.

Yeah, that seems to be what most have experienced with the Epic. I wish I was among you. I really wanted to like this phone. I think it's luck of the draw. Somehow I've managed to get 2 defective Epics (perhaps). For all I know some of this may be user error (me, maybe?) but I'm not so sure about that.

I'm glad to hear that this phone satisfies most people.

I'm glad I found this thread. It is indeed frustrating because just about everyone I've run into who has an E4G has said that they love the phone. This is my first ever high-powered smartphone, and I have nothing but regret about it. I had my mind made up to get an iPhone 4, but being an 11 year Sprint customer, I came across the E4G and loved the look, features, and packaging of it, plus I wouldn't have to switch carriers.

I am on my third replacement (four phones total) since March 1st, 2011 when I bought the original one. Each one I've had has had it's own multitude of annoyances and problems, and the fact that Sprint has insisted each time on giving me a remanufactured unit doesn't help. They have been like robots in their awful customer service, giving me the same run-around and same treatment in every situation, there is no getting anywhere with them.

These phones have been so unreliable, I can't help but think there has got to be a flaw in their engineering. I was so excited to get my first smartphone, but there is no feeling of pride or happiness when I look at my phone. The battery is always low. I have to take a charger and/or the usb cable with me wherever I go. I have no happy, satisfactory feelings or memories with this phone, and I've had it for 5 months. Five months of pure crap, from a crappy device administered by crappy Sprint with crappy customer service.

This phone is completely untrustworthy. Each of my replacements has had it's own unique set of warts, from various bugs, glitches and malfunctions, to looking and feeling a piece of junk that's been in someone's pocket for a year. Sprint would never give me a new phone because I waited 32 days (instead of of 30) to report all the issues with my original device. It's been nothing but "too bad, so sad, you're stuck with it, deal with it" from them.

I truly hate this phone, and I'm hoping these forums will help me find some relief, as my next upgrade is quite some time away. I'm thinking of going the rooting route, hopefully that helps somewhat. I just want the phone to not be buggy or slow, for all the apps, plugins and notifications to work properly, and for a full battery charge to last more than 2 hours. The sick thing is I actually can't wait for the GSII, it looks like an amazing device and I'm willing to give it a chance once I can get this piece of Epic shit outta my hair.

No problems here. Love the phone. Wife loves hers too. We are both rooted running SRF1.1.1, but never had a problem pre-root either. I don't see upgrading for quite sometime, this phone does it all.

Why don't you uninstall android.iqd? Or is it a running service?

How can you blame the phone? Everything you mention is software/OS related. There's a video showing how to return it back to 2.1.

IMO I think it's sprints added software and the Android OS not meshing.

So someone is working on it, and considering Sprint has officially said it's coming your post has you living under a rock for the past couple months. So maybe you should take a few sips of reality, step into the present and forget about the Kool-Aid. That's Kool with a K.

and for the people bitching about the length of time its taking in one way, shape or form, you're always going to find a reason to bitch. It's taking too long. If they released it too early you'd complain about the bugs and how they rushed it out the door. After seeing many releases from most of the mfg's have issues, I could care less how long it takes. I'm just happy there's a source throwing us leaked builds to play with in the meantime.

I wish you the best. I love my phone and was scared to root it at first , but am so glad I did. I have friend with the Atrix and my Epic is faster and seems to run smoother. Plus the screen is brilliant compared to the htc's. But good luck to ya

Yep. We waited for quite sometime for 2.2 and it still has bugs. So what difference will it make if we wait 1 minute or 1 year for GB?
