Root Guide Question need help

Depends if you want Clockwork or not really. If you do, yes. If no, you can grab and flash Amon Ra or another recovery.

Just rename it to PC36IMG.zip (check your file extensions) and let fastboot take care of it.

This is assuming you have S-OFF

Im at the white screen now and it says S-OFF...i wanna use Amon ra....so once im done with this and i can dissconnect my phone, i gotta plug it back in and put the zip on the root of the sd card and do the power and volume button thing?

Okay, so currently you have S-off, no recovery.

You'll need to put the amon ra file (named *exactly* PC36IMG.zip (check for file extensions)) on the root of the sd card. Then when you go back into fastboot (vol down and power) your phone will update recovery.

Done.
Sounds like you've got it to me.

Do you have S-off?

No? > Re-run revolutionary.

Yes? Do you have a recovery?

No? > Flash amon ra (PC36IMG.zip) through fastboot.

Yes? > Flash the su file.

That should help.

If you have S-Off you don't to run revolutionary. That is an exploit tool that gives you s-off (which means you can install the custom recovery and run as root).

So if you have s-off, just flash the amon ra file as outlined above. Or for a more thorough example look at the rooting for dummies guide or the rooting gingerbread thread. Both are golden.

Hope that helps.

Yes you need to place the file on the root of your SD card, not in any folders. Make sure the file is named exactly PC36IMG.zip, double check the name because windows likes to hide file extensions.
Then power down, and hold down volume and power until you see the screen with Andy riding a skateboard. This is called the hboot screen. This is where the PC36IMG.zip will flash. Wait until it askes you to update and select yes.
Post back when it updates.

i would move the nandroid backup to someplace safe on your computer. it has the wimax keys. but you can delete that folder. as long as you have one nandroid with wimax backed on your computer then you are good to go.

what about if i try out different ROMS and just wanna go back to the stock one, does that nandroid backup folder have to be on the sd card so i can restore it from recovery?? or will it still restore without the folder?

oh and the zip files too...the amon ra and the su zips....can those come off or should they stay on the card?

you do not need to have it in a folder. it can be anywhere on the card as long as you know where it is. i would just keep it where it is, and just navigate to it when you want to restore a nandroid.

i would keep the amon ra zip. just rename it so that it is not PC36IMG, otherwise you it will ask you if you want to update each time you go to hboot.

the su file you can just delete now.
