Alright so I tried to install BB after being "currently" on Sholes but I installed the UPdate.zip and every time I try to download it it says installation aborted..ya I have SpreRecovery and all that good stuff but DO i have to remove Sholes some how??? Then go to BB I did everything put it in the root of SD, recovery and then I tried to install it but it said Installation aborted every time...

Thanks

You should not use the update.zip method for Pete's ROM if you had Sholes installed previously. Download the Nandroid backup and put the files in a folder within the Nandroid folder on your SD Card. Boot into recovery, and first do a Nandroid backup of your current setup. Then do "Wipe Data/Factory Reset", then "Wipe Cache". Now perform an advanced Nandroid restore, choosing the BB ROM and being sure to check data, system and boot. I believe they are all checked by default. See if that works.

Right above the option to install an update.zip file is an option to allow the installation of an update.zip file. select that, nothing will really change, then select the update.zip installation. It should go without a hitch now.

Both responses are correct. You can install the update.zip file in Recovery but have to allow it first as eeraider pointed out.

Having said that, if you try and use the update method after having Sholes, you will probably run across some problems. Update doesn't remove Sholes completely...

I back up every ROM when I first install it and then before I make any changes. If I want to use a new version of BB I make sure I first load a good backup of an older version of it. If I want to try a new Sholes ROM, I first restore and older version of it. Using MyBackup Pro to keep your installed applications up to date is a good idea as well and keeps things simple.

I understand that you may not have previous versions of BB or Sholes but start backing them up now that way you can easily flop back and forth to test and try new roms out.

Just my 2 cents :D

Im new to using ROMs, right now i have Sholes 2.0.5 installed and would like to make the switch to BB. If i use the Nandroid backup of BB wont i lose all of my apps and settings and have to set my phone up all over again? Anyone know of an easier way of making the switch without wiping everything off my phone?

either use the update.zip or do an advanced nandroid restore, and uncheck 'DATA'

I hate to say it but if you are switching over to BB for the first time, you should do a clean install (which will cause you to lose all data). This is my opinion and some may disagree but I have had problems trying to keep my data and switching roms. Use an app to back up programs and settings like MYBackup Pro. It's not perfect and you'll lose your pop/imap email settings (I don't know about exchange cause my Droid is my personal phone and I don't use exchange with it). You will have to set up your homescreens again...but it is better to start fresh.

The good news is that if you are conscious about backing up your apps as well as doing Nandroid backups, you can then switch back from BB 7.6 to Sholes 2.0.5 so you can upgrade to 2.0.6 and try that out (I know sholes is down now...I'm just trying to draw a picture). When you want to then try the latest version of BB you can restore 7.6 and THEN use the upgrade file to get to the latest version.

Hopefully that makes sense! :D
