White RAZR or Nexus?

my droid x is done after rooting it so i have to upgrade

i am still undecided and which path to take next; white razr or nexus

from my experience of playing with a razr it is a nice looking phone, feels great in the hand, very durable, newer version of GB, good camera and so on. BUT, after using a droid x for so long id rather not buy a phone that has almost the same version of software

as for the nexus i like the new software i installed it on my phone and loved how it was but from what i hear the camera is garbage and so is the sound quality, and i personally think samsungs are cheap quality when it comes to the hardware

just remember the superior build quality for motorola phones, the nexus does not have superior build quality, it does however have a nice screen that is beautiful, and not so easy to scratch.

but IMHO motorola has the most amazing build quality out of all these device manufacturers

I've come around to agreeing with that about Motorola phones, having had HTC and Samsung. At first, back when the first Droid was out, I handled one and thought it was terrible, toy-like slide out keyboard, etc.

Then the X and X2 changed my mind. Of course the Droid was my first handling of a slide-out, so maybe the "solid" feel of no keyboard prejudiced my mind about the Droid. The Droid 3 I had for a while was very solid indeed, I just ended up liking on-screen typing better, so went to the X2.

i cant use qwerty keyboards anymore, i find them not needed, and a hassle when trying to type fast, or on the go. others may have their own opinions but, to each their own.

motorola in my opinion has lied about the bootloader situation to us for a while, and will continue to do so, so for me until the bootloaders are unlocked, i will not go back, however i do miss the build quality of a motorola, as it was the best on the market. IMHO

I would NOT buy a Razr right now. The standard model will come down to $199 after the Maxx is released. The Razr Maxx will be $299. The Maxx is basically the same form factor and screen only slightly thicker. The thickness is to hold a giant 3300mAh battery. So soon you can save 100$ or get a phone that can last like 21 hours on a single charge.

If I had to get a new phone right this second, I'd get a GNex.

Of the two choices, white razr. I'd hold out for the max. I own the rezound and spent quite a bit of time with the razr, helping set it up for my friends mom. I have no regrets, like the Htc better but moto makes really solid phones. It beats the three in build quality easily. I dislike samsung phones, it's a personal bias but I
want to be honest. I barely bothered to mess with the nexus. A guy at work returned his gnex for the razr and is happy. Returned because of sketchy signal.

My opinion is this...............
I have the X and looked at the Razr. My friend has one and it is a really great phone. If you want to always play with it.......IE change roms and themes etc............then it is a no brainier.............get the Nexus.
One point..............I had a Nexus and took it back, many issues that i maybe could have dealt with but VZW sux in my area and having ZERO data is not an option.
I did not upgrade to the Razer because it was as you said too close to my X but if your X is giving you issues then by all means do it. My X is still rocking and i will be looking at some of the new stuff down the road.

One last point.............the camera that is in the Nexus IMO at least is not good at all. I let 2 others try it and they were blown away at how bad it was giving that it was such an awesomely rated phone. Your milage may vary as you can find MANY opinions on here +/- when it comes to the phone.

I am really tired of being tied to a 2 year contract and have and will pay retail so i can keep my phone updated. Looks to me like AT&T has a couple of nice phones coming out. Their network in my area is awesome, better than VZW and i don't travel much any more.

Just things to think about.................. your X is in need of replacing , go with the Razer or "chunks" the Rezound (lol).
If you want to do roms, themes and unlocking go with the Nexus if it works in your area.

I scratched the screen first day with my GNex... I've had my DroidX since release last year and still no scratches... maybe I've just been lucky but idk

I ended up returning the GNex. After waiting months and purchasing it on release day the phone just wasnt what I thought it would be

I think I'm going back to a Motorola. Either white Razr or waiting for the MAXX

I, too, am having difficulty with my beloved Droid X. :'( After running Go launcher for months, I tried the Christmas HD live wallpaper that Google had for $.10. After about 3 weeks I started having numerous FCs and freezes, I've pulled the battery so many times in the last month, it's amazing the little red tag is still there! So I spent 2 days getting rid of every single Go app, cleaned up other apps, went back to stock wallpaper (GB-.605) and it's better, but getting really crappy battery life (even on new battery)!

So, alas, I am also looking at these phones to choose my next best friend. The Nexus appeals to me, but the so-so reviews do not. I agree with you about the hardware quality of Motorola (it can't be beat)! But it scares me not to be able to reach the battery. I didn't spend much time with the Rezound, so don't know much about it.

Here's what I'm thinking though:

Lurking around the X forums (plus doing a bit o' research), I've got an itch to try the root/rom thing! At first, it started out with "how do I get my apps+ data from the X to a new phone?" But now, I feel like experimenting! So after transferring the apps/data to the new phone, I'd like to use my X to play around with first.

**Q1: Is it possible to root/flash roms on a phone that isn't currently in use? As in has no cellular service?

I realize that if I really like playing with my phone, the GNEX would probably be the way to go.

**Q2: Is this assumption correct? Or would a RAZR or Rezound be a better choice?

That's it for now, I'm sure I'll have other questions for the rooting forum!

TIA! :-D

Cheri' (lurking newbie)

P. S. I may not get back here right away, surgery tomorrow (today-Wednesday). Check back as soon as I can! Thanks again!
