Root [CDMA] In Call Volum Problem

I rooted my phone a couple weeks ago and have had no problems with it. Then today I noticed that my in call volume was extremely low and the volume bar shows it is up aas high as it can go. I tried doing a factory reset on my phone by doing a battery pull and booting up in fastboot, but it doesn't really do a reset. Everything stays exactly the same. don't know what else to do.

Can you elaborate how you rooted your phone? Like what version HBOOT you have (listed in the bootloader)? Do you have a custom recovery installed? If you have a custom recovery installed, doing a factory reset from the bootloader won't do a thing. You'll have to use your custom recovery to do that. To get to recovery, you can access it from the bootloader by selecting recovery. Or using an app like Quick boot.

Also, for in volume control, I'd recommend Volume+. There's a trial and a full version available on Google Play. (Located here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.TEST.android.lvh) The full version (in Beta form) was also free on the developer's website.

I rooted using the HTC method and I am on HBOOT 1.5, I do not have a custom recovery installed. I basically rooted the phone to keep the stock ROM and be able to Tether. Everything was working fine, but now my in call volume is just horrendously low and I am not sure why because the volume is all the way up and my speakerphone works just fine.

Ok, so try this:

Go into the bootloader. Then select recovery. If recovery is not available, it probably says fastboot or fastboot USB. Push power and it changes to HBOOT and Recovery is available. Enter recovery.

If you have the Stock Recovery, you'll see an Android with a triangle and an exclamation point. Push power to show the options. Select with vol up and down, and I think the camera button is the select key. Maybe Power is the select button. But there will be a restore to factory defaults.

If you have CWM or TWRP (which are custom recoveries), then you can just do a wipe data or factory reset. They do the same things, just have different names.

If that doesn't work, and you do have a custom recovery installed, you can try installing the stock ROM. Sometimes the SU patch causes issues and it wouldn't be bad to reflash everything to make sure everything is good to go. Instructions/downloads for that are in my guide:

I tried going into recovery through the bootloader but it just restarted the phone. I tried going into recovery through CWM but it also just restarted my phone...not really sure why I am unable to do a factory reset or get into recovery...maybe I should just try and find the latest RUU and return my phone to unroot it...if that doesn't fix my volume issue then maybe it's a hardware issue??? Thanks for the input. Maybe I should just go back to my Hero running CyanogenMod, lol.

You could try flashing the recovery manually to make sure it took. Or you can do a factory reset from within Android. I think it's under Settings > SD card (I'm on a AOKP ROM, so I don't know what it is actually under).

Yeah I tried doing a factory reset thru the option under the SD card menu but it just restarts my phone...it's killing me that I can't do a factory reset no matter how I try

Well I went ahead and was able to use the RUU to wipe the phone and restore it to factory, but my volume issue is still there. I'm guessing it has to be a hardware issue at this point. Seriously thinking about calling Sprint and see what they can do for me...I have insurance on my phone but don't really want to shell out $100 so they can send me a new phone if they can't fix it.

You can always ask. Even though you rooted, you should still have some warranty coverage. If they can't prove that rooting caused your issue, and you're still within a year, they would have to replace it. And by they, that could mean either Sprint or HTC. But it's a bit of a legal quagmire and internet lawyers like I am not the best to consult.

And, if nothing else, you can always try that Volume+ app I suggested in the beginning of the thread. With root access, it can turn up volumes.

Yeah I will give them a call later in the week...I usually use my phone to text more than anything. I did try Volume+ but only noticed a minimal increase. Maybe I need to purchase the full app. Apparently this is not an isolated incident since there are other EVO 3D users who've had this problem. Hopefully Sprint or HTC will repair it without too much off a headache for me.
