Root Need elementary answer to get rid of system updates

I need an elementary step-by-step response, please. My phone is rooted and I use TB, superuser, etc. Over the last 4-6 weeks I have had multiple requests to do system updates. I have followed the instructions to the best of my ability, but they keep coming back at least once a week, and any time my phone is powered down and back on. One night I let it update overnight, only to wake up to the same android exclamation icon on the screen still.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need these updates? If not, how can I disable them? Thank you in advance.

You should never be accepting system updates (OTA's) while rooted. It can mess up your root access.

There should be an option somewhere within your settings to stop checking for updates

There is no 'setting' to turn off... Click on the like i provided. You can use autostarts ($0.99) or there is a free alternative also linked in the thread i posted

How about you just use Odin and flash the FA19 image with root and cwm to your phones that way you have both ?Interested?You want the link.And its very very simple.

Some people experience dropped calls, bad service, or crappy 3g speeds with fa19. (me being one of them, I'm on ej06, and will remain there until at least the next update. Fa19 was a huge FA1L imho)

happened to mee too had to upgrade my prl and profile.I also tried the 3g booster settings.Im on boost mobile network so its not great

The simplest way to disable them is to change your build.prop using a root explorer. Unfortunately I don't know of a free one on the android market. Once you get it though, open it, navigate to the internal/system folder and look for a build.prop file. Go into settings and make sure Mount R/W is checked, then open the build.prop file and find "ro.build.version.incremental=" and change EJ06 to FA19. Then save it, navigate to internal/cache and delete the update.

Or you could be like the cool kids and put a new rom on your phone.

Pretty much none of that made sense to me. As I said in the initial post, I need elementary vocabulary for this. I do not know how to change the ROM (I've seen posts, but they're too techy for me) and it scares me to consider it.

Okay I'll attempt to assist you with this issue. Breaking down what Caeadas said in layman's terms. First you need to change an important file in order to stop the notification to update. This file is called "Build.prop". Here is a provided link to a free app in the play store to edit it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...xLDEsImRlLmJ3dWxmZXJ0LmJ1aWxkcHJvcGVkaXQiXQ..

After installing that it will request superuser access just like titanium backup did when you first used it. Also it will create a backup copy of your current build.prop file. Now the only thing you need to change to stop notification is one line. Look for "ro.build.version.incremental=" and change that EJ06(what you currently have) to FA19(which is the name of the new update). This will stop the notification since your phone will think it already has the update. If you can not find this line you can create it from within the Buildprop editor app. Good luck and I hope this works for you.

...and I just realized i left my phone out in my car and its far too late to go fetch it, so I have no way of finding the cache-clearing thingy. I'll check it in the morning if you still need it.

Yep, those Caterhams are nice. I like my Solstice though. I plan on putting a supercharger on it in a couple of years along with a ground effects kit. Here's a pic of the kit I plan putting on it.

Like lordvincent mentioned go to the play store and get autostarts if you don't want a new rom. It will stop the update messages.

The update has some security updates, GPS and network fixes and other stuff. If you want that go to the prevail all things root section on this from and look for how to unroot . Then you can update your phone and root it again.
