Help Reception Issues? Concerned about radio signal strength?

I've had my EVO LTE 4G for about 2 weeks - and anytime I use it on the 3G network it is SLOW. Yesterday I noticed that I wasn't receiving any inbound calls or texts - and after several hours I finally received about 8 voicemails that were delayed by as much as 12 hours! I am self-employed and the EVO is my primary work phone, so this is not acceptable. I am currently working with Sprint to resolve the problem. If it's not fixed today, I will be switching carriers.

All,

Yesterday I started having issues with my mobile network disconnecting on its own. Basically, the 3G icon disappears from the status bar, and there is no data connection. I have to manually go into Settings and then turn Mobile network off and then on to force it to connect again. This may or may not be related to the Wifi issue others are reporting. Anyone else having this issue? It has also been documented in the Sprint forums as well as XDA but there does not seem to be a reasonable explanation or solution. Switching from CDMA only to CDMA/LTE (or viceversa) does not fix it. Some suggest it may be tied to Sprint working on the LTE rollout, or even PRL updates (no luck either).

Any thoughts?

I just spent 45 minutes on the phone with Sprint. Apparently they are getting a lot of calls with people complaining about data speeds on the 4G LTE.

The Sprint rep tried a bunch of things, but even though I'm showing three bars of signal, I have no Internet. It does work sometimes, just not at my phone or office!

She suggested taking it back to a Sprint store and having them reactivate my OG Evo until this phone gets fixed, either with some kind of software fix, or a new hardware version. She says they are logging all these issues, so they can figure out how to fix it.

Can I get my MSL from sprint over the phone?

Actually you don't need to be rooted or contact Sprint for your MSL. If you go under Settings / About / Phone Identity and at the very bottom, there is a listing for IMSI. Check that number, the last 10 digits, I believe, is your MSL number.;)

Could a root user please confirm this with MSL checker?

I still haven't rooted mine yet.

So I got this message today at random... 3 times lol.. Has anyone else seen this? I'm guessing this is the whole.. MSL/ reactivation thing? I mean my data speeds aren't horrible.. They probably could be better tho... And call quality is great.. I guess I will get my MSL tomorrow and do it anyways.. Couldn't hurt right?

i got my MSL through CDMA workshop and its not the same digits as the IMSI number. MSL should be 6 digits not 10...

Come on now Granite, you can use the local root method to root and RUU afterwards and HTC/sprint will never know the difference :p

I had the OGEvo and it was good. I now have the Evo LTE and its faster and better for the most part, but I am having problems keeping a 3g signal. I updated the PRL and sprint reset their data on the their end and also guided me through resetting the data on my phone with combination # numbers. I even switched the phone settings from LTE/CDMA to just CDMA.

Well my 3g is still super slow and the "3G" icon disappears intermittently and I lose my data connection.

Is this a widespread LTE thing or did I just get a bad phone? Whatever the case may be. I am returning/exchanging it.

It's widespread.

It's the phone.

Sprint's supposedly aware. I'd anticipate the first firmware update for our phones released before the end of July.

Here are a few articles as a reference point. If you're returning the phone simply for an exchange of another LTEvo, I hope it's for another reason besides this...lol

Another issue iv been having every few days that just happened again..my signal drops completely off the face of the earth which iv never ever had happen..it doesn't come back unless I completely restart my device! Iv updated profile, prl etc daily and it still happens!! And it shows an x for my signal no signal whatsoever and it happens in areas where iv always lived and been like my house, my work etc...

And iv had 2 other evo's (evo 4g, and evo 3d) and another android device 4 devices total on sprint living in the same area and working at the same area and iv never had any issue signal wise until this device. Anyone else having this issue?

Also I have noticed me, and a friend who also has this device since day 1 when were on WiFi we either lose 100% signal, or we roam? And when we disable WiFi it doesn't bring the signal back...but the roaming signal goes away!? And we lose signal 100% until we reset our devices 100% !!??

I am curious about this issue. I have to housesit for my dad in a few weeks. Really the only spot I roam of all the places I go. Has anyone heard or used the Wilson Sleek? Saw a commercial the other night and expected the worst. Went to Amazon and it got alot of nice reviews. Just not sure if I want to drop almost $200 for something though.. Sorry if it is kinda off topic, but it would make more sense for me than an airwave would.

Feel free to give these old time-tested Sprint tweaks a shot to see if this helps alleviate reception issues.

It won't hurt your signal anymore than it may already be, and your results may vary.

Mods: Delete if this is a repost w/i this thread please. :D

So I did a bunch of speed tests last night and they were all over the place. My phone was not moved.

330 kbps download 657 upload 1:27 am
146 down 0 upload 1:25 am
197 down 0 up 1:24 am
491 down 1021 up 1:22 am
251 down 297 up 1:22
192 down 0 up 1:21
168 down -1 up 1:20
546 down -1 up 1:20 am
904 down 349 up 1:56 am

I did these tests with OpenSignalmaps. I was able to do a screen save, but couldn't figure out how to post the screen. It seems very odd to me(not the screen save posting issues, but the signal variations). I'm wondering if my phone is seriously screwed.

I can't speak much for the phone, but I can say from a PC perspective, you arent going to get the same thing twice or possibly close. Goto Speakeasy.net and run a few speedtests from your PC. They canbe all over the map depending on network traffic. If someone else is using heavy data on that same tower, I would assume your speeds would drop just like if you were downloading huge files on your PC and then run a speedtest. I wouldnt be too concerned, but then again I am more familiar with PC's vs Sprint data usage
