Verizon jellybean

I couldn't of said it any better!

I don't know about significant. The keyboard is better, the new voice search is much better, and the general experience is smoother. The rest is just small tweaks and improvements.

You won't look at it and say "Wow, this is so different from ICS!". It looks and behaves almost exactly like ICS, just smoother. That is not to minimize the work that went into it. It's great. But ICS was pretty great too.

Actually "project butter" is what I've been mostly interested in. The main issue I have with my Android phone (not a GNex) is it gets laggy and I appreciate that Google is trying to improve the smoothness of the UI animation. I've been considering an upgrade to the GNex for this reason.

I rooted my phone months ago and love it. When jelly bean was announced I took the plunge and installed jelly belly and love it. It is so smooth and the new voice search is great. She sounds lime a person now rather than a robot. Also Google now is cool. It learns what teams I lime and automatically updates me on their scores. Plus it tells me traffic and times to get to my appointments without me asking. I then installed the full screen mod and now i get the use of the whole screen without the Nav keys. I love this phone and jelly belly.

I guess it's not that big a deal, since all of my data are portable, but can someone who has rooted please tell me at what point in the process data is lost?

I see a number of posts that say to make a backup after rooting, but also say you will loose your data when you root.

So what's the backup for?

Maybe a better question for the root forums... just seemed like a few people in this thread worked it through for the first time over the weekend.

The reason for the backup is in case something in the software 'breaks' and the phone quits booting. If you have a backup, you can restore the backup to get your phone working again.

You've most likely got at least 3 months if you're waiting for the official Verizon release. There are stable Jelly Bean roms out there if you're up to rooting.

I think it's going to be a tad quicker this time. Google renewed its AOSP with Verizon. The reason that it took so long to go from 4.0.2 to 4.0.4 was the proprietary orientation sensor and the CDMA/LTE stuff. Google has worked all of that out. The following link has all of the binaries for both the GSM and CDMA/LTE Nexus versions.

https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/drivers#torojro03c

Sprint guys may take a little longer. Google doesn't have an AOSP with them.

Yes! That is one thing people forget is that Verizon is back on AOSP so that COULD make a huge difference. Second, Google themselves have implied the update would drop this month on Verizon. So, we'll see.

VZW being back in AOSP still doesn't negate the fact that VZW will want to do super duper internal testing with the updated firmware on their network before pushing it out.

aka VZW will probably still have to approve of the update.

exactly, hopefully it still will be quicker though :p

That said, I really don't have a interest in the OTA (except maybe if they include new radios).

I'm just waiting for most of the custom ROMS to go through the first couple rounds and become super stable then I'm upgrading from GUMMY.

Make that two Guides. I've still never flashed a new ROM. The pain of getting all my apps back concerns me. I guess I need to trust Titanium and just do it.

Oh, I have the DESIRE, I just don't want to have to flash more then once or twice.

partly because of apps like Rich mentioned.

partly because of Google Wallet, I know some folks with it flash a lot without issue, but I still get nervous. Plus I have a Citi card linked so every time I reinstall and link my citibank card they send me a letter in the mail. I have nightmares that there's some "secret" limit at which time they'll cut me off :(

Sorry if this has been answered, I did a bit of searching on the forums and google and got mixed results (mostly what seemed like a bunch of regurgitated information from various scraper news sites). Is it true that the GNEX Jelly Bean update is live?

Has anyone with a VZW GNEX got the update? Is there a way to "force" update it?

FYI I'm not rooted. I'm just talking about the standard OTA update. Thanks.

For those with an Unlocked Nexus (GSM variety), JB has been released and most people have the update. For the Verizon phones, the update will have to come from Verizon and it has not been released yet.

Verizon has not released Jelly Bean yet. You'll see lot's of news around here when they do though...but expect it to take awhile.
