Root No more wifi tethering

I even change my User-Agent-String in IE when I tether, so it's harder to detect if you're tethering, since it reports back that a "mobile browser" is used.
And I tether only to browse and check e-mail......

That's a little Add-on which lets you switch the UA-String easily :

Bayden Systems - UAPick

This would be the User-Agent-String to use for the Prevail on Boost :

Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.6; en-us; SPH-M820-BST Build/GINGERBREAD) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1

(PS: Just be aware, that pages might not look the same as on a normal desktop browser, they are displayed as it would be on a mobile browser )

BIG BROTHER IS WATCH---er, texting you?!:hmmmm2:

2 Possibilities here:

1. They're randomly sending these notices to people, kinda like the RIAA suing downloaders to scare the crap out of them. They aren't directly homing in on YOU, just throwing a general net out to scare those who are tethering without actually going through the motions of actually gathering evidence.

2. They actually ARE targeting you, because you're using so much bandwidth you got yourself noticed, like others have suggested.

Depending on what you've been doing while tethered, either of these could be true.

Excerpt from service specific terms:
UNLIMITED USE DOES NOT MEAN UNREASONABLE USE. To ensure that all customers have access to reliable services provided at a reasonable cost, you may not use our service in a manner that interferes with another Boost Mobile customer's use of our service or disproportionally impacts Boost Mobile's network resources. Prohibited Uses: Boost Mobile services are provided solely for live dialogue between, & initiated by, two individuals for personal use & as otherwise described in this policy. Boost Mobile services may not be used for any other purposes, including, but not limited to, conference calling, monitoring services, data transmissions, transmission of broadcasts, transmission of recorded material, interconnection to other networks, telemarketing, autodialed calls, other commercial uses, or other connections that do not consist of uninterrupted live dialogue between two individuals. If your plan includes data services, such services are provided solely for purposes of web browsing, messaging, & similar activities. Examples of Prohibited Use of our data services include but are not limited to use thereof (1) with server devices or host computer applications, or other systems that drive continuous heavy traffic or data sessions, including, but not limited to, disproportionate Web camera posts or broadcasts, automatic data feeds, automated machine-to-machine connections, peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing applications broadcast to multiple servers or recipients such that they could enable "bots" or similar routines; (2) as a substitute or backup for private lines or frame relay connections; (3) to send or receive unusually high numbers of messages (4) to engage in atypical web usage behaviors; (5) for tethering your device to a personal computer or other hardware; & (6) for any other reason that, in our sole discretion harms our network. We will presume you are engaging in a Prohibited Use, in violation of these terms and conditions, if you are placing an abnormally high number of calls, or repeatedly placing calls of unusually long duration (as compared to other customers on the same service plans), or if your usage is harmful or disruptive to Boost Mobile's systems or services. If we determine, at our sole discretion, that you are using an unlimited service in violation of the Boost Mobile General Terms & Conditions of Service, these Terms of Service, or in any other manner that we deem to be unreasonable or excessive, then we may terminate individual calls, or, after providing notice to you, terminate your service, decline to renew your services, or offer you a different service plan with no unlimited usage components.

Checked the site out with multiple submissions for bad reports... looks like it's used for more than just Boost Mobile, and sometimes is used for promotions and other times for warning messages.

It's Legit.

I have downloaded several files via wifi tether (I get 1Mbit/s where I live) and have not received any messages like the OP did. So far I try to keep it below 2GB a month... which is fairly easy with a 24Mbit/s connection at home that the phone can use when I am home.

There you go, nothing wrong with the site other than it looks ugly...

i been tethering for over a yr......mostly netflix and regular browsing. never had a notice. but how is it against terms and conditions to tether when they advertise the evo having hotspot capability? i can understand different phone services having different policies but one company having different policies for different phones is just stupid. on top of that isnt it unlimited everything... i bought my phone from radio shack and activated it myself. went through manuals and cant find anything about no tethering allowed

edit
k additional fees for hotspot.....still stupid. ur given unlimited dats usage BUT you cant use it for tethering.... unless u buy this phone thats 3 times the price of urs an pay an additional fee. gay

It's the movie-watching that's doing it. Movies use HUGE bandwidth, enough to easily stand out in terms of data usage.

Yes indeed. I would think a lot of movies would do it. The average movie is between a gig to a gig and a half. Some are around the high 600mb size but they are few. Supposedly they are not capping our data but if you are watching 4 or 5 movies a month, that could well be your problem.

Since you did receive the message, I would cease the higher data usage for awhile. It would suck if they revoked you.
