Galaxy S2 GT-i900t rooting help

Hi, I am new to rooting I've had my s2 for 5 months now and I've been getting bored of it lately so i thought of rooting it and might over clock it, however the problem is when i research how to do it i do not understand much. If some one could give me a explanation for beginners on how to do it, it would be greatly appreciated. I have a i9000t from Vodafone and my Build number is IML74K.DULPB i am also currently running on android 4.0.3. Also if some one could answering a couple of my questions about rooting that would be good; What else could you do with rooting the phone?, Is there any risks such as bricking it?, If i root it would i be able to software update it from kies or do i have to download a custom firmware?, Would i be able to unroot it once rooted? Here is a wealth of information regarding rooting, with a step-by-step guide as well as a video for beginners in the, "Rooting Galaxy S2 - A Dummies Guide". Also, in post 2, is information on app's to install, kernels, ROM's and how to make backup's and restores as well as links to other information and guides.

I would suggest grabbing a coffee and slowly, carefully and thoroughly, reading through this and if you do have any questions that are not answered by the guide, you can post them in the, "All Things Root", section of the forum.

Also just one last question is that my phone is a i9000t not i9000 also on every forum or instructions i cannot match my build number to some one else's I have build number IML74K.DULPB and cannot find some one that has the same. Is this going to be a problem?

No, not at all. The, "T", variant is identical to the International, GT-i9100, version in every respect, save one... the modem. So, you can flash any ROM's or kernels for the International version to your phone. All you have to remember is to flash the, "T", modem after flashing a ROM.

I'm guessing you are in Australia, NZ, South East Asia or Israel, if you are using the, "T", variant as certain networks, notably, Vodafone and Telstra, use a different band in these areas.

Thanks for that and yes i am from Australia.
Just an a couple minutes ago i followed the rooting steps for dummies and was able to complete it with everything happening the way it was supposed to be however after finishing it i attempted to boot my phone by simply holding the power button and nothing seemed to be happening, i then held it for a minute or a bit less and it came up with the booting Samsung galaxy symbol and a yellow triangle under it. It then acts like it is powering up but then nothing happens, and the symbol disappears. I have tried taking the battery out and booting it in download mode and it still doesn't full boot. Any suggestions?

Hi,

I have tried that and it doesn't seem to work same thing is still happening.
Is there a problem? I'm i doing something wrong?

My build number is IML74K.DULPB and in my kernel is: i9000TDULPB-........ i do not remember the rest and i downloaded CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXX_LPB-v5.2-CWM5-PROPER.zip
is this correct?

Could also try a "fix permissions"

Failing that, I think you would need to flash firmware.
Obviously flashing stock firmware would mean you lose root, so you would have to re-root.

Or you could try flashing a custom ROM.

Just a thought... the CF-Root LPB kernel is labelled as, "*** = problems mounting secure storage".

Have you got any app's on your external storage, particularly ones that might be used in boot up. These will all need to be moved back again. Once you are rooted successfully, you can install, say, a Siyah kernel that does not suffer this storage problem.

As Hawker mentions, flashing your stock ROM, for the time being, will get you back on track again.
